The looks are serviceable. Will be interesting to see the aftermarket offerings.

3rd Gen Tacos were vomit for a while. People get used to them.

And the aftermarket can do wonders for stock looks. Still feels like a stepping stone to the next (truly) renewable. I keep hearing people say that battery tech will improve. I get that. But I wonder if it CAN improve at the rate it needs to, to not be overtaken by another option. I mentioned earlier that Hydrogen Electric is being heavily developed by Cummins and it was pointed out (accurately) that it is specific to the heavy duty industry, however the technology wont be hard to adopt to smaller engines, quickly.

How does that figure in to the financial aspects of purchasing an extremely expensive vehicle, that may become a yard ornament before you pay it off? I understand that's a fairly dramatic question, I'm simply trying to see all perspectives.

I doubt that this technology will come to smaller vehicles without plenty of years warning. Once it’s known when that technology will come to market and the infrastructure supporting it will be widespread, people will decide if they want to switch.

Technically it is “suspended” although I read another article that said it was cancelled. Switching to a clean sheet EV platform would make more sense.

oh you mean as opposed to "electrified" like a hybrid? I thought it was full BEV from the get go.

A full BEV Jeep Wrangler competitor form Toyota would be SWEET

The segment is not worth competing in. Jeep Rampage & Kia Soul is all I can think of at the moment. There might be something I'm forgetting, and then add BE to the mix. Who would buy, like maybe ten people.

Toyota is probably think you want BEV, buy a BZ4X, don't want BE? buy a RAV4 Hybrid, don't want hybrid buy a gas RAV, want a BOF SUV that isn't huge buy a T4R, hey we also got Sequoia. Don't like that we got all the other options down the street at Lexus.

Canceling the Compact Cruiser is a sound business decision.

Honestly that’s one of the reasons I went ahead and bought mine. If I don’t like it I can turn an easy profit and go back to a normal truck.

I'm very late to this but...

I got my '22 Tacoma the same week a family member received his Rivian R1T order. I very much enjoy my Tacoma and hope it serves me well for many years to come. The Rivian, however, is very cool. Said family member has already hauled a 6800 lb boat up a pretty steep hill. The Rivian handled it very well, though of course the range hit was bad. I've also seen it used in some moderate camping situations and it did fine.

My takeaway is that electric trucks are going to be very popular outside of a few applications, so long as they can get the price down. That will likely come in time.

Again, I love my Toyota and for a variety of reasons, I'm glad to have something is a little old fashioned. But electric cars and trucks are going to be very popular.*

*(I just wish the government weren't forcing this with subsidies and regulations. Let the market decide. But, there are too many wild-eye people concerned about carbon emissions I guess)

That GMC Sierra Denali EV really does = Rivian R1T. GMC took a 2018 advertising pic of a Rivian (it was launched at the LA Auto Show in November 2018) and they flipped the image and photoshopped the Denali EV on it. Makes you wonder how vaporware the Denali EV is…

That is hilarious, if the GMC D-EV was on the road today it would most likely be facing the same battery pack recall as their Hummer and deliver van.

Rivian does still offer their nonlegacy auto manufacturer niche, much like Tesla over both Ford and GMC EV trucks.
