TRD Pro VS Off Road

It’s really just demand and supply like with everything else. We are all free to participate in the markets as we wish whether it’s stocks or houses or cars.

fun fact: Up until around the 1940s, pink was the color for boys (and not just in Japanese culture). Blue was the girl's color, because it was supposedly the color the virgin Mary wore.

 

I've wondered that myself, we've had several manual transmission cars over the last 12 or so years with pushbutton start, and then my Tacoma shows up with a real key. Please understand, I'm not complaining, not only do I prefer the key, but there are several threads here regarding stolen Tacomas which state the case the keyless ignition automatic models are easier to steal; who'da thunk it?

 

I figured it was just cost cutting, or Toyota being lazy and not adapting the Keyless system to only 4% of the trucks built. Low volume not worth the investment to them.

 

That's where my point comes into play...if one wouldn't be opposed to listing/selling his/her own house above the original purchased price, then that same person shouldn't be instructing someone else about not purchasing a vehicle above MSRP.

I think the majority of people would not hesitate at an opportunity to make money off of other people, and the other remaining minority are lying about it. It could maybe just be a very small profit, but it's still a profit.

 

I believe they use the key in order to work in conjunction with the Clutch Start Cancel Switch.

 

I just picked up a 22 TRD OR 4x4 with Premium and Advanced Tech packages. According to my friends that work at the dealership, it is identical to the PRO other than a few cosmetic differences and the Cat back exhaust, and FOX shocks. You can add all those things later if you want. Otherwise it has all the tech, leather, sunroof, etc that the PRO model has. It's much nicer than my 2010 TRD Sport.

 

It’s not identical then For some people, the suspension, wider stance, wheels, leather styling, fogs, and more aggressive external cosmetics are very important.

The comments regarding the build quality and ride comfort of the 4R being much better than the Tacoma have me concerned.

I am headed to the dealer tomorrow to trade in my 2019 4Runner on a 2023 OR.

I have found the 4R to be uncomfortable on long trips, excessive wind noise, horrible gas mileage, and interior parts wearing quicker than anticipated.

It does great off-road and is still rattle-free after 40k hard miles on brutal roads in Arizona and Idaho.

If the Taco is worse in every way, then I may have to re-think things.

I bought the 4Runner instead of a Tundra because the 4R was more dog friendly and passenger friendly. I had a big dog and a serious girlfriend, so an off-road capable SUV was perfect.

Now, both are gone, and I like the versatility of a pickup. I was hoping the Taco would have the same build quality, reliability, and resale value as the 4Runner, but with a bed.

I test drove a 2021 Taco OR with 40k miles on it and it seemed to be holding up better inside than my 4R with the same mileage. It also felt more powerful and seemed comfy.

Hopefully someone can tell me that the Taco really isn't THAT bad...

 

This example makes no sense. Houses are not mass produced the same way cars are and generally go up in value. Where as cars in their vast majority depreciate into oblivion

 

They are really similar. I wouldn’t expect one or the other to be worlds better.

 

Toyota is really behind other manufacturers when it comes to interior quality and technology. And the Toyota trucks are a even more behind their sedan and EV counterparts.

 

You can’t compare cars to real estate. Cars are depreciating assets and with rare exception are never considered investments. Real estate, on the other hand, is almost always considered an investment, and in most cases appreciates in value. This is why most people are able to sell homes for more than they purchased them for, and why most people sell vehicles for less than they have invested.

 

Yes. And the difference in price was a few thousand. Was worth it to me. When you’re that close just go all the way.

 

Interesting point which I hadn't considered; none of my other cars with manual transmissions and a push to start button had a Clutch Start Cancel button. Good call!

 

Correct but the laws of demand and supply apply to all assets classes, depreciating or not, commodity or not.

 

And regardless of supply and demand, paying over retail for a Tacoma is a fool's errand.
