I try to avoid NYC/DC/ATL on drives south, although the GWB turned from hassle to amusing when I armored the truck up... I can literally watch people change their mind about cutting me off.

Reading is a bit more west than I go when heading to the Carolinas. I was there once on my way to Union Bridge, MD. Which is very close to Gettysburg.

Bojangles is big in the south, but I've never heard anything good about it.

I worked with a NC native and he raved about it. I've only had their food once and I very much prefer Chick-fil-a.

Been there done that. DC is cool but if I'm not stopping then I avoid it.

Nothing wrong with it but I'd prefer something less chainy when possible. But I'm hammer down all day so it'll be a quick stuff my face stop.

Opposite direction. But I appreciate there is another Bojangles connoseur. I've already had it once I get down here

There's nothing saying I won't do that though. If Bos is an option then I'd take that over BK any day.

Edit - looked at the map. There's one where I'm stopping. Might add a few minutes but I'm so there.

We travel to Carlisle pa a few times a year. Living in central ct I have a choice. Midnight cruising takes me the quickest way. Merritt pky to 287 to 78. To 81. But lately it’s been what we call “ over the top”. 84 to 81. Don’t generally stop for anything or anyone. Fuel when I get there.

Yeah - I can't make it with only 1 fuel stop, I don't think. It's 780 miles. I THINK I can push 400 mile range, but not worth it when fuel stops are right off the highway and I need to stop for food anyway.

I'll let google and waze tell me which way to go once I get up there. I will likely take 287 but if it sends me up 84, so be it :notsure:

Chicfila is literally hot garbage compared to boj. It's the first thing I eat every time I arrive in NC, and the last thing before I leave

NC, all those BBQ places and you’re hitting BOJ?? That vinegar based NC bbq is my favorite!

Keep in mind that up here we tend to be food snobs. There are a lot of good restaurants around here and even the mediocre ones aren't horrible.

If you travel through the south it's a non stop cycle of BK, McD's, Bojangles, a Chik Fil A here and there, Dairy Queen, Denny's, KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silver, Sonic, some alleged rib joint chain. Panda something or other, Dunkin', Star Bucks, and so on. Oh, and Waffle House. Which is actually pretty good even though people don't think so. The food we've had is usually in small Mom and Pop places.

The bigger cities are better, but out in the suburban and especially the rural areas, the choices are limited. Some of the gas station/convenience store food is decent too. The problem is the locals know that, but people traveling through aren't going to.

    Oh, avoid gas station sushi.

That's about the distance to my son's place in SC. Start with a full tank, top off in Sturbridge, fill up in Matamoras, continue through Pa until you get to WV if at all possible. Last time we made it from Matamoros to Winchester on one tank.

Of course if you insist on I-95, none of those stops will help you.

Oh, don't go more than 5MPH over on the Interstates in VA. The troopers down there have no sense of humor and will write you. I think it's 10 or maybe 15 over and they can arrest you.

I try to get Mexican or bbq down there too. But boj is special because there's nothing like it up here

Again. I am so happy there is another connoseur who understands.

    :puke:

NC style is bottom of the list of BBQ styles. New England doesn't count as a style.

But it's like having the worst Bugatti in the parking lot. Still better than everything else. And there's a shack down the road from me I've been to three times since I've been here.

Yeah something about how VA counts it as criminal offense at any speed too. Don't remember what it is specifically but yeah.

Whoever has driven with me knows I am not a walking risk of a speeding ticket. I drive pretty slow anyway. It's a truck, not a rally car :notsure:

Again. Happy to see another connoseur! :D

I'm in the sticks of chapel hill. The Mexican is a solid 5 out of 10 around here.

I think it’s 20 over can potentially get you a felony. I believe it’s called wreck less endangerment with intent to kill, or something to that affect. At least that’s what I heard when I lived down there, VA troopers can be tough…

I do the same when I cross into NY on the Pike. I drop from 80 to 67 mph. They like to sit on that first straightaway once you’re in NY.

I'm a big fan of Texas BBQ, but I'm not that fussy.

One thing I noticed in NY and PA is that the troopers like to sit on the median of the Interstates and just wait for someone to zip by. Waze is helpful, but of course if you drive by where they were last seen and there is nowhere, that just means that they are somewhere else in the area.

I've heard, but have never had to verify it, that the VA Troopers can collect a speeding fine on the spot, but only by credit card. Sounds kind of Andy of Mayberryish to me.
