Time for front brakes

    So I have a 2009 TRD Sport dcsb with almost 190k and I'm doing the front brakes. I am replacing the rotors and pads with Advics. The calipers have seen better days so I'm gonna swap those out as well. I've narrowed it down to new units from a Toyota dealer for about $500 or reman units from Power Stop for about $200. Any advice on which way to go? I did the rear brakes last weekend with Power Stop drums and shoes. I also have swapped out my rubber lines for Goodridge SS lines. Thanks for any advice or insight.

    I'd get reman calipers from what every auto store you like and trust - I take the old caliper off first to save time since you have to give the old caliper back to the auto store for a core charge - that way you make one trip. The last ones I got were coated ones from NAPA - figured it would slow up rust - I live in New Jersey - lots of salt in the winter.

    I'm just about to do entire front brakes on my son's 2007 AC 4x4 180K and was going to ask the same questions about products. I was leaning towards the PowerStop kit (pads/rotors) Not sure if we'll do calipers but I'll look at them this weekend and decide how they look. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

    I have a year on my reman Power Stop 4Runner calipers. They've been fine. Suggest you do the 4Runner big brake upgrade since you have a TRD Sport with 17" wheels. Only extra expenses are two 4Runner dust shields:
    Pro tip: if getting reman calipers, check all the bolts holding the two caliper halves together are tight.

    Rock has NEW Ultra-Power calipers for about $100 each with "enhanced corrosion protection." They also have the usual reman suspects. I haven't personally tried Ultra Power calipers, but have used Centric remans with no problem - but everything we have is just daily driver stuff.

    I've been using Centric brake stuff for years because I have met multiple shop owners in my job as an auditor (sorry) (I always "talk shop" while auditing), and many of them swear by Centric, saying they've had the least returns when using that brand. Be aware though that Centric has two lines - their regular "Centric" line and cheaper "C-Tek." I am referring to the regular Centric stuff.

    I was using the stock rotors with Powerstop pads. (Can’t recall which ones) They worked great. Changed to Akebono pads when I gave the truck to my MIL. A little gentler, but they bot worked good.
