Made a bracket utilizing the two down-facing holes on the frame just behind the bumper cover. Never get a hard time about it in our ball-busting state.

from what i understand, CA requires 2 licnese plates (front and rear). but if you have a sports car, like a Porsche or something like that, you dont need the front

The reason for most on front is to have a nice flat surface to bounce the radar off of. The reason they get anal about it is they mighta been able to write you a speeding ticket but didn't get a good read so all they could do is give you a cheaper ticket. At least that's how I see it........Oh, and it gives prisoners twice as much work to do vs. only needing 1.

I just went with some factory painted bumper plugs to hide the hideous holes my dealership drilled. I like the clean look, but would hate to get pulled over for no front plate after a night on the town.

I might do one of those hide-a-way mechanical plates that they do on the hot rods in the future, but whats stopping a cop from pulling you over and writing you a ticket even after the fact you have pushed the button to post your front plate?...they still saw no plate when he/she pulled you over.

Thought about that! Used spring loaded hinges. And am going to modify it further so you can flip it up and it'll stay up.

NY requires and you can get a ticket if part of the plate is covered by the dealers adv on the bracket. I turned the dealer adv to the inside just to be safe.

Here is what I did for my license plate. Nothing fancy but I didn't like the way the dealer mounted it. They just had screws drilled into the bumper and I felt it wasn't too secure. When they drilled it, it actually left the plastic material from the bumper stick out like shrapnel. I masked the area around the holes and took a dremel with a small cutoff wheel to cut off the piece to make the hole smooth. Then I drilled the hole slightly larger to accomodate sheet rock anchors.

Here is what it looks like with anchors in place

Then I added a license plate bracket and mounted it backwards. I wanted to add a small strip of weather stripping to the bottom of the holder to prevent scratching of the lower bumper. This is the reason I mounted the brack backwards cause there wasn't enough surface area to attach the weather stripping. At least now it looks like a much cleaner look being encased in a bracket and not just drilled directly into the bumper. (I blocked out my lic plate number as I seen this done on may forums. Anyone know why this is done?)

    Couple of questions.

    1. So Toyota doesn't make/sell a bracket for the front?

    2. I live in GA and we are only required the rear tag. So If I drive through a state that requires front plates, could I get a ticket for this? Never thought about this before.

Luckily mine didn't have a tag on the front, had considered putting one on, but I guess this thread answers that question for me.

X2 ^^ LOL. Tell me he can't be serious... and don't call me Shirley.

    1. Not sure. Don't need a front plate in PA.

    2. Negative. LEO cannot draft a citation for display when it's not mandated by the issuing state.
