new tires tomorrow

will have pics tomorrow or sunday...guess what i got a flat today, one day! before i get new tires unbelievable...

i have a 2.5 in lift in the front are 265 the biggest i can get without trimming or rubbing?

 

I had 265/75R16's on a stock 02 tacoma with no rubbing. On a side note, 31x10.5x15 on the same truck rubbed a little and I had to take my front mud flaps off.

 

265 r stock im wondering if i can go bigger without rubbing or trimming

 

So 265/70R16's are stock. I had 265/75R16's installed not to long after I got the truck. I believe if you any larger than that with a stock tacoma, you will need to do a little trimming.

Nope...with a 2.5" lift, you could probably get away with 285/75R16's (~ 33" tire).

Hey mario go with 265-75 if you go bigger you will trim even with a 2.5 lift

bigger = re-gearing time... you sure you have the dough to drop on something like that?

 

got the dough but id wanna spend it on something else 265 it is

 

smart. just remember.. upsizing a tire and not re-gearing means more strain on your drivetrain. that isnt good... leads to blown trannys and all sorts of other fun stuff.

 

sick cool...how about downsizing rims...stock it comes with 17 in and the guy who had it before me put 16's

 

16's = cheaper

 

no... rim size doesnt matter...no idea why he would step down to a 16 unless he was going to actually use it in the dirt more, but ok lol.

as for upsizing tires... the simplest way i can word it is like this...

your rear end is geared for the best mix of both worlds from the factory with a specific size tire in mind. they gear it for the amount of torque and top end you will need to drive it while also trying to achieve the best gas milage. when you step up to a bigger tire, you are throwing in (for lack of better words) more rotating mass. basically it takes that tire longer to complete one full revolution than the stock size did. so you would have to regear in order to get it back to that correct turn ratio of 1 tire turn per x amount of pinion gear turns. hope that is easy enough to understand.

 

and incorrect there buddy steve-o. 16's to alot of tire manufactures are considered a odd ball rim size. in some cases it is actually more expensive to get a tire with a 16 inch wheel hole then it is for the same size tire with a 17 inch wheel hole.

 

17's are more expensive tire and that i have a 16" rim tires are cheaper for me

 

which tire company you go for? i know for the bfg baja's it was almost 25 bucks more for a 16 then it was for a 17 when we were lookin for them for jp's class 1 car i was tellin you about.

 

I stand corrected my friend 17's are actually cheaper for bridgestone dueler revos but i guess it the brand too
