you can never really get them fully drained. i'd put 3 quarts in, when the transmissions in, fill the thing till its up to the hot mark high. then adjust once its running.

Thanks Dan, yeah not the dip stick. I'm talking about the actual torque converter. Supposed to fill it (pour directly into the tc before mating it up to the transmission) if its empty before running it. At this point I'm thinking I've got a quart of trans ATF in there, better than dry. Once everything is back together will fill it to the cold mark and then run it for a few. Check and keep filling/checking. I was more concerned about the level in the tc.

When the salvage yard shipping my transmission, the torque converter was drained as there was just a slight bit that drained out. When I mentioned filling, this is what I'm referring to -

the TC holds most of the fluid. 3 usually gets it for me.

I have an alternator from Mean Green. Haven't met anyone running a starter from them. Haven't installed my alternator yet either since my 04 needs head gaskets.

I think that's what I might have put in Frankenstein from the parts store years back. Can't remember though. Green was in the name.

Depends where you're at I guess. West coast, non issue. Midwest/east might need some PB blaster to soak em and or a cut off wheel. Have the proper tools and time, you can get it done.

Well, I realized that I am running KM2s and not KM3s which makes finding a lone replacement kind of difficult. Also makes the random blowout add up a little better since I guess they discontinued the KM2 somewhere around 2015 (meaning these tires are at least 7ish years old)? I just sent it on a set of Yokohama Geolandar M/Ts and an aluminum Denso radiator. Maybe the list will end one day. :spending:

Can anyone tell me anything about this chassis just by looking at it? A buddy of mine "inherited" this 4x4 Chinook project from a roommate who skedaddled. My buddy thought it was an '81 chassis, but I'm pretty sure they didn't make square headlights until '82. It does have a straight axle. Not finding any other telltale signs from the pic (haven't seen it in person). Seems like the grille is aftermarket(?).

I can get it for a ridiculous price because it's got no title (VT doesn't care). It's been sitting, it won't be a cheap project, but I'm frothing at the mouth a little bit.

Trying to be reasonable and learn everything I can about it before making any decisions.

Not really much to add, but just supporting that you are on the right track. Solid axle puts it between '79-'85, square headlights put it '82 and up, I am thinking the grille is something like this from eBay, and the front bumper looks to me like it has 3 openings whereas afaik the '84/'85 had only two. I would guess it's an '82 or '83. Just my .02, I'm not an expert by any means. Good luck with the project if you do pick it up

Do you have a detail or drawing of what you're using for drawer sliders on those bearings? I need to redo my bed platform/drawers and this looks really nice.

Pro Comp 69's, I believe they are 15x8 and also gloss black which I think is now discontinued. I got them in a trade so I'm not 100% certain. 33x12.50r15 BFG KM2's which are starting to rot and will be replaced soon with Yokohama G003's. A 15x8 Pro Comp 7069 is the present day equivalent, they and mine are 3.75" BS.
