    So far so good with the new tire shop...
    In and out within 90 minutes. Quick spin on the interstate and everything seems to be balanced perfectly.
    AND the final price was $15/tire less than what they quoted me a week ago.

    I pulled out quiet a few nails when I was doing the demo, and the ones that weren't rusted in half were still gripping fairly well. I just think that the screws can give more "clamping" force.

    Thanks to everyone for chiming in, ( and for Weesa for pointing me towards OZ-T), and thank you @OZ-T for your advice as well. I had the bucket of Simpson Strong-Tie structural deck screws in my hand last night and put it back. I think that I will return and grab them and just be done with it. With the nails, I kept seeing that it was a front and back side nailing pattern ( 16" OC, 4 minimum in the column) and a 3 1/2" length, toe nailed to keep the nail from poking through ( and giving it the strength of being toe nailed). I think that a layer of PL400 can't hurt, either.
