Is it still worth buying a 2023 Tacoma?

I think the consensus is us 3-pedal drivers are dinosaurs, relics from a bygone era; why invest the R&D money for a new clean-sheet vehicle when only 4-5% of them are being purchased with a manual transmission. That said, and yes, this is me talking out of both sides of my mouth at the same time, with the volumes Toyota build for the Tacoma, a 4% take rate is still a lot of sales; sales which might otherwise go over to Jeep in the form of the Gladiator.

I am considering getting a Maverick for my wife. That or a Miata. Then she won't be taking my truck to work everyday. This business of having one car is for the birds...

 

Hard to go wrong with either pick- both are fantastic vehicles. If you already have a Tacoma in the stable, why not go for the Miata? You'd be hard-pressed to find a more reliable, fun, economical convertible.

 

There is no such thing as a 25k maverick they are all sold out for 2023 and have 5-10k markups bringing them to essentially 30 and up.

 

Baloney. There were plenty of dealers taking orders for MSRP, and countless people driving around in AWD XLTs.

 

And the Miata can be had in manual! My wife and I both prefer manuals, but she does like the Maverick too.

 

How can they take orders if the order banks are closed ?

You said there is no such thing as a $25,000 Maverick. Maybe YOU didn't get an order in to secure one, but plenty of people did.

 

You said you can order one which you can’t. As of this moment. Sure there plenty of people rolling in $49,995 model Ys as well but that’s not the current price

 

No, I said there were plenty of dealers taking orders. Past tense.

Edit to add: and there are plenty of dealers that will happily place you on a wait list for MSRP.

 

I think the new Tundra front end looks like a whale shark. So if the new Taco looks anything like that, I will be happy keeping my 22

 

It's funny, many of us had comments about how terrible the 3rd gen looked when it first came out. And look where we're now....

There was an article on an interview with Toyota execs. They are delaying EV trucks and SUVs because they are attempting to stay true to the soul of toyota off-roading. They believe that until infrastructure improves for EV vehicles, there's not a place for them in the world of toyota and off-roading. Makes sense I guess.

 

I can't wait 4 the 4th Gen forum. It's going 2 be a lot of fun to watch. It will make the g3 form debacle seem tame.

All this talk about prices and increases but let’s look at the ever climbing inflation. As someone stated before, prices never go down. Factor in the over 10% inflation over the last 2 years which is a record high, and look at the rate at which things are going…I wouldn’t be surprised to see all comparable models from competing mid sized truck manufacturers bumping their prices and I think it’s absolutely feasible to see a $60k+ Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado, so on…especially with all the tech and bullshit complications they pour into these things that most people I know (and most owners I see here) doesn’t give a flying rats ass about unless you are worried about shopping carts and car doors or you’re that one YouTuber that trims the branches back on the trails because he’s worried about getting tiny scratches in the clear coat when he “goes off road”

 

It is a good looking truck - Certainly better than anything else (truck) out there. - but the length of the nose catches my eye on occasion and I wonder how that happened...

Toyota execs are trying to save face - this is the reason for many of the comments issued recently rationalizing their current offering on EVs. - Reality is; Toyota got badly caught behind the curve as they wanted to milk their hybrid play.

The CEO was made to reconsider as the Government of Japan issued an EV target for the country - merely weeks after the CEO made his statements that Toyota was not all in on full EVs - That turn of events was highly embarrassing. To add insult to injury, this was then rapidly followed by other countries issuing targets or even banning ICE vehicles. And then importantly, US states like CA and NY jumping on the bandwagon... - Now Toyota are way behind as they pivot - and try to catch-up and rationalizing as they go...

Very unlike Toyota, they are fumbling on full EV launch as we've seen in the news on the wheels literally falling off. They are desperate to catch-up.

No doubt Toyota will catch-up, and do well in the future, but they missed the ball horribly on this transition.

 

That's why I'm buying now also. I don't care about the 4th gen at all if it is automatic only. On the other hand, I might want to get one if the manual carries over, and in that case I might sell my 3rd gen, but I doubt very much that a 4th gen manual will happen.

 

Exactly why I got my 2023.
