Transmission shutter/clunk issue.

Im wondering if anyone has an idea whats wrong with my truck. I have a 07 TRD OR prerunner with the 4.0 and 5 speed automatic trany with 69k miles. I notice about 3 days ago my truck seams to have started having transmission problems.

When im accelerating easy shifting from 2nd to 3rd my truck starts to shake and clunk almost like hitting a rough piece of road. Also when im cruising on the freeway ~65 to 70 mph and i barely get on the gas my truck down shifts and makes a pretty hard clunk.

My truck doesnt act up at all when its still cold or if i accelerate medium to hard. Also i never had my transmission fluid changed. could that be the problem.

 

Could be a bad u-joint or carrier bearing. I have 71k miles on my truck and no transmission problems, like you I haven't changed my fluid.

 

Thats what im afraid of. the only reason why i dont think its the carrier bearing because it only does it once its worm. Also it feels just as good as my friend tacoma.

I doubt they would warranty it im 10k over my warranty, lifted and 33s. Did you go to the dealer to have yours done?

 

Ah that sucks but it was worth it im sure.

 

Yeah im thinking monday, im just going to a Toyota specialist thats down the street from me. I would take it to a dealer but this shop is cheaper and i trust them since they have done many of my friends and family's toyotas.

The issue turned out to be a bad U joint right off the transmission output where it links to the drive shaft. The joint was physically bent/disfigured from some hard offroading. Not sure how or when it occured. Had U joint professionally replaced and problem is now completely gone.

the issue could have been caused by flying your truck through the air like an airplane!!!

My U joints are still fine, ironically. It was the OP's that went bad.
