How heavy do you tow? I tow a pop up at 1200 pounds with the gear. I still never see pan temps that high the TC can spike to that when in 1-3 and during shifts, but when I'm in 5 on the highway they stay pretty low.

Not very heavy. I see temps over 200 regularly when not towing and just driving 70-80 on the highway. Running 285s, 5.29s, some steel stuff

I'm on 33s (255), maybe 100-150 extra weight, no regear, did you pin your thermostat to see if that helps?

I have not. The truck's only got 35k right now and I'm planning to add the cooler this winter so I figure it'll be fine until then

When i went to 33s it didn't seem to change my temps at all, even when towing they don't change that much from my normal. When you do your cooler i'd do some drain and fills on the trans fluid, seeing 220 is a little high and it probably has some degradation.

I totally agree. Planning to do several drain/fill cycles. Maybe it's overkill and maybe it isn't. I just don't wanna find out the hard way

When I did my cooler (at 80k) I did 6 drain and fills with vavloline max life to replace the fluid. With only 35k you can probably get away with less drastic measures.

You got a source for the science around somewhere, or are you just talking out your ass?

Some guy pulled out in front of me at the beginning of the year and I had some front end damage. They replaced my radiator and trans cooler, bumper, etc. (Early model 2020) When I got home after they fixed it, they left a brand new, still in plastic trans cooler in the bed of my truck. They didn't want it back:notsure:
If you are looking for a stock cooler, I'd sell ya one for, i dunno, half price?

So I've been thinking about this question for a while. The OEM cooler is tiny and goes for like $500 retail (you can get it online for ~350) but an equivalently sized (or larger) tru-cool goes for maybe $100. I don't know if I should get the OEM or just go ahead and get a larger cooler right from the jump. @gearcruncher do you have an opinion?

I don't tow currently but probably will at some point down the road.
I'm curious to know what the opinions are on this one as well. I'd do half of the online price? No hurry
