Girlfriends 2003 Tacoma is taking a shit, driving on the highway the throttle cuts out and goes into limp mode, throws a P2138 code. "The P2138 trouble code indicates that the Engine Control Module has detected a malfunction within the D and/or E circuits of the throttle position sensor."

We replaced the TPS sensor somewhat recently with a new one directly from Toyota. From the searches I did I am leaning towards the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor being the culprit,bl but cannot find anything online about replacement, or even a place that sells them, seems that everyone suggests buying a whole new Throttle body, which is $$.

Anyone on here experience this same issue? My local pick and pulls are shit for toyota stuff, but I might still try to find an APPS there to swap

As of right now its new throttle body or junk yard. I don't know why 1st gen Tacoma's are the red headed stepchild when it comes to that part. No aftermarket support either.

yeah the APPS isn't really given it's own :/

remember @Grronk the 03 was the first Tacoma with the electronic TB (01 T4R was first) so growing pains until they honed it for the '05 4.0

I saw a new TB goes for about $675 last I checked, but they are not available everywhere

I wonder if it could be retro fitted back to the non-app style. It would take a different throttle body and computer, but I wonder if it feasible… I’ll have to do some checking..

remember the trans is also electronic, no manual kick-down cable so you'd have to replace that if you do the ECM :D

It should be a 340 transmission behind the 3.4. My 96 tacoma with a 3.4 had a 340 trans behind it with a ect switch on the combination meter bezel. The 2.4l had the old hydraulic A40. I’ll have to look at wiring diagrams to see if there were major changes between the electronic and mechanical throttle body systems for The 3.4. I personally never cared for that hybrid system. It was Toyota taking baby steps.

I may be thinking if it has cruise control, otherwise I believe there is a light change in the 01 T4R/03 Taco version
