And that is how it’s done folks. :101010:

Wow, honestly absolutely epic. I think I shall refer to you henceforth as Adams.

    …Grizzly Adams

Hmmm. Wait, needs a little something more…

    Grizzly Adams, Surveyor of Wolves.

    Yup, that’s it!

    :proposetoast:

    So, funny story about that…

..the other day I was trying to remember if I needed to rewind my winch. I thought for a second…”there was winching at Tigerton…oh yeah! Pat did the winching! …I’m good.”

I’m sure that winch was ready in spirit though.:p

So, how did you actually get the line unballed???

In more ways than one! A second vehicle to have as an extra at home, And a second vehicle as a battle buddy on the trail. I mean, the pup was a battle buddy, but sometimes man’s best friend can get a little judgy-looking when they sit there watching you shovel yourself out :D

I was close enough to a tree to use my tow strap and tie off. I was able to get a few feet backwards. Did this a couple more times and then it was far enough I could pull it out. Had I not had the backup option I am not sure It would have gone as well for me.

I always carry a come-along with me. If the truck had been immobile, you could always use the come-along as an aid to pull the lead.

I don't have a winch (yet?), the things you don't think of...learning is good.

Oh I have something great coming soon for the Taco - the title!

But for real, I'll likely look at suspension in spring.

As someone who knows nothing about winches (but may need to in the future), and who has never heard of that brand, are they like the best or something? Look well made but expensive though that doesn't always mean best. And it's hard to tell what's good because usually I see either Warn on the high end or Shittybilt/HazardFraught on the bottom end with no options in between.

Title mod = Best mod. Aspiring to do that myself sometime in the near future!

Nothing wrong with come up, or Smitty built, or badlands.

Most winch failures are from poor usage or lack of maintenance. That being said, certain winches made in the hundred acre woods do not hold up under pressure.

ComeUp is becoming more well known in the states and is manufactured in Taiwan; quality seems to be good. I don't have much winch experience, but will be giving them a try for my first personal winch soon.

Warn, Smittybilt, and the Harbor Freight Badlands series seem to be among the most common brands used here. There are others available too, like Superwinch and Ramsey, though I'm not as familiar.

Got my heat source all ready for this year, 1 ton in the garage and 1 ton of the good stuff in the basement for when it gets really cold. It did fine for 2k lbs, not something i would always do, still waiting on my 2nd leaf to arrive so i can start that swap lol

Read up on proper spooling of your synthetic winch line. If you have steel cable, replace it with synthetic.

Ideally you'll spool it out and winch it back in under light load at least once a year. If you do end up using your winch in water and mud, clean the synthetic line when you're done. Simply working it through a bucket of water will do and then let it dry before spooling it back up.

Warn recommends pulling it out and respooling every few months. I tend to exercise mine pretty regularly during the summer, but I should probably do this once or twice during the off-season.

    Here's their maintenance information:

Seeing as I'm not a fanboy I can make an objective statement. 3rd gen Tacomas simply aren't made as well as second gens. For how far along they are in the life cycle there are more issues being posted every day than 2nd gens had this far in their life cycle. I know second gen's weren't perfect but every single day I check the forums I see someone creating a new thread with an issue like today someone has transmission fluid dripping off of their bellhousing on a 21.
