    This Pinto, with factory A/C, was one of my favorite finds during today's junkyard excursion. The car ran and drove when the previous owner scrapped it over a decade ago...

    My cousin had a 84 as his first new car. Didn't work so well..I kinda think he skipped AC as well, though for the extra $1000 or so it probably was back then and being a teenager buying a new car I get it.

    A decent set of clippers wouldn't cost that much. Takes me 5 minutes to rip mine..been doing it almost 15 years.

    I'd tap that.

    The running boards were rusted out, but it had only 113K miles, it ran great, the A/C was ICE COLD, and it had thousands of dollars in work done to it including exhaust and suspension. According to Carfax, whoever bought it after we traded it in financed it, and managed to get it repossessed after maybe 10 months of ownership...

    The Carfax goes dead after the summer of 2010, and I would surmise that it likely ended up selling at wholesale for pennies on the dollar, where it likely ended up getting sold to a salvage yard like Michelle's and crushed; I am beyond pissed, because it was in really good shape when we got rid of it.

    @shakerhood

    Also, the Pathfinder I found at Junkyard Barbie's is either an SE without leather seats and the off-road package, or a base XE. The LE was the top trim, and my dad went out of his way not to buy the SE because it had too much chrome. The LE came standard with everything, including leather, Bose sound, and a limited-slip rear differential. My dad opted for a loaded SE with the off-road package, which came standard with a limited-slip diff by default. Both the SE with the off-road package and the LE came standard with a 5,000-pound towing capacity. My dad's had heated leather seats, and sunroof, and pretty much every option except the CD/cassette combo and Bose speakers. My dad's had a single CD player, and we thought for years that it had Bose sound, but he tracked down the window sticker years after we sold it; I carefully read the window sticker and was able to determine that it just had a standard 6-speaker stereo. It was possible to get a CD/cassette combo without the Bose speakers, but you had to get the CD/cassette if you wanted Bose. My dad's Pathfinder had a decent stereo, but the factory CD player shit the bed in 2003 and it had an Alpine CD player when my dad traded it for the Tacoma.

    My dad's Pathy had the heated leather seats, sunroof, and digital compass/thermometer, but no cassette player or Bose. I have seen 1996-1998 Pathy SEs with cloth seats, no sunroof, and no Bose, but the cassette/CD combo.

    The XE was the cheapest model you can get, and came standard with a cassette player and crank windows; A/C was even an extra-cost option, but I have never seen a Pathfinder newer than 1991 without A/C. The XE and SE came standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, but the LE came standard with a 4-speed automatic. The XE could be equipped with power windows, power locks, cruise control, A/C, and a CD player, but not the limited-slip diff and CD/cassette combo.

    BOC….Nice.
    I remember growing up listening to that album while working on my little Honda Z50.
    My dad was a big classic rock guy. He would play album anytime we we in the garage working.

    Also, Pathfinders sold incredibly well, but they were never as popular as Toyota 4Runners. Both the T4R and the Pathy were all-new for 1996, and my dad wanted a 4Runner, but they were in such high demand that no dealership within 50 miles of us would sell below sticker; I found the Pathfinder in a print ad on the back of a magazine, and showed it to my dad. He liked it, found that Nissan dealers were willing to negotiate on the price, and bought. The Pathfinder still beats out even my Tacoma for the record of "longest time my family has ever owned a vehicle", but my Tacoma beat the Pathy for the record of "most miles put on a vehicle owned by my family" in spring 2020...

    Whenever I see a 1996-1998 Nissan Pathfinder, at least around here, they are rusted out shitboxes; I believe that most of them rusted away and ended up in salvage yards within the last decade, and it is a sad thing because they really are solidly built and reliable vehicles. In high school, the plan was for the Pathfinder to be my first vehicle once I got my license, and my dad was going to sign the title over to me; I started researching aftermarket modifications for this generation of Pathfinder, and they were virtually nonexistent with the obvious exception of aftermarket stereos and speakers. It was possible to find wheels, brush guards, and other minor accessories, but there were no performance mods other than a K&N air filter (Which my dad actually did buy for that rig). I ended up inadvertently letting my learner's permit expire, and I was 20 years old by the time I got a new one. By this time, the Pathfinder had aged a bit more and was starting to show its age; I would have been happy just getting a stereo with an AUX input, but my dad insisted on buying me a whole new truck. I was not picky, and my only requirements were that my new vehicle was either a pickup or an SUV, had air-conditioning, and had a stereo system with a CD player and an AUX input. Even the cheapest Tacoma had those two features, that's what I ended up with, and I couldn't be happier!

    problem with that year is that they were unibody so when they rusted out you threw them out. My dad had a 97 and it ran great but rusted the hell out. All the brake lines needed replacement at some point before he got rid of it.

    My dad had a green 1992 Dodge Dakota LE supercab 2WD with the 3.9L V6 and 5-speed stick. He bought it brand new for like $11K (his brother knew the dealer and got my dad a hell of a discount), and only had it for like a year because he decided it was too big and also wanted 4WD. My dad's truck had A/C, cruise, tilt, stereo cassette, and pretty much every option but power windows and power locks. My dad's truck also had an open rear differential, which combined with no 4WD in Pennsylvania, made for a less-than-pleasant experience in the snow. During the 1993 superstorm, some woman in a Toyota Tercel lost control in the snow and smashed into the back of my dad's Dakota. The damage was not severe, but the left rear fender had an enormous dent, the taillight was smashed, and the bumper was twisted. I don't know if the fender had to be replaced, but the taillight cover and bumper definitely did. The woman's insurance covered everything, and my dad got his truck back looking good as new. He traded it for a new S-10 Blazer probably three months after the accident occurred.

    Except for the 5.9 R/T. Those are fast as hell and seem to enjoy a remarkable survival rate!

    FACTS!

    Had a '99 Sport 5.2 that my dad bought brand new, a turd; but I really like how they look so while in college I got a '01 Quad Cab SLT with the 4.7 :facepalm:Got tired of dumping money into it and sold it at a huge loss before moving to the states. I'm stupid though so it won't surprise me if I get the itch for a R/T 5.9 down the road, HS dream truck right there :der:
