All TVs will amplify the OTA signal the same. The trick is to capture as much signal strength as possible. Where you live do you know where most broadcast originate from? Up here in the SL valley about everyone broadcast off of the top of Farnsworth peak. I have an old OTA antenna on my house that I point right at Farnsworth peak. I can see the peak off of my roof. My signal fro OTA beats anything from cable and satellite. OTA broadcast are not compressed like cable and satellite. Do you have something like that?

Yeah... Maybe I didn't communicate this well enough.

I know where the towers are. I've been using antenna TV forever.

But I have some worries about what kind of equipment I'll have to buy to replace the perfectly good TV I have just because connectors have evolved. Do all TVs get the same kind of antenna reception? Maybe they do... maybe they don't. I was hoping someone could tell me if there is some place that rates TVs for antenna reception. I've googled it and have been unable to find any good information. But is that because there IS none? Or because no one in the industry is concerned about people not paying for services? Or maybe they all get the same kind of reception with an antenna?

Just looking for a way to cut my risks and avoid any disappointments.

I believe that Over-The-Air broadcasts are protected by law, so by extension, the compatibility of TV receivers would be expected to follow suit.

Quickly, I am rushed this morning. Black Friday will have some great sales on TV's select the model you want befor the sales. I am partial to SONY TV's, but they are a little more expensive. Check the ethernet connector for the TV to make sure the speed is 10/100/1000mbps. Most tv's at 10/100. It makes a big difference in the streaming quality, I have a high stream service from FIOS.

    Off to the polls.

Thank you for continuing to work the polls! It's not an easy job these days.

I think most people will use their WiFi to stream to their TV's. It's only diehard "wired connections or nothing!!!" loonies like me who run ethernet cable all over the place. :)

How well a TV handles OTA signal input is an interesting question. Since that feed is digital these days I would guess that some manipulation of the incoming signal to clean it up would be reasonable. So I googled "best tv for antennas" and it turns out there is a new standard that should be factored into a purchase decision. ATSC 3.0 is what you want to look for. If you want to focus strictly on that:

    https://www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/best-tvs-with-atsc-30-tuners

I also found a page comparing the built-in tuners. It also mentions the ATSC standards.

That... is exactly the kind of information I've been searching for and didn't know how to ask the question. Very much appreciated.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Quick run back to Lowe's this morning, and solid putz, football, and burgers the rest of the day.

By the way, I forgot my disclaimer: "Insurance plans may vary from place to place!"

Wife and I both have UHC, but hers is a plan for retired teachers. They don't even HAVE a donut hole for Part D! Nice.
