"HID's not allowed"

I just bought and installed the below headlights, however on the product it says "HIDs not allowed." Does anyone know why? Is it because it'll be too bright or because I can run a risk of a fire?

It wouldn't be the heat because HID's run cooler than halogens.

 

So you think I can just put in HIDs instead of the halogens?

 

Probably so the manufacturer will not have liability when you blind someone and cause an accident. I've yet to see a retrofit HID install that wasn't putting out ridiculous glare.

 

I'm 90% positive that it's illegal to put them in a car that came with halogens from the factory, but pretty much everyone does it so just make sure they're aimed properly

DON'T WORRY. I believe it is fine, I have all those generation headlight, and i install HID on it. No problem at all.

 

x2 you need to get a real projector housing to have the correct cut off for HID's other wise you will have alot of scatter

 

I just adjust my headlight so will not blind people! I do try to look for people doing the retrofit headlight, but all people asking parts and labor for about $1000 dollars! It is way too much! If the price drop down to a grand total of $600 I will purchasing it! I don't think a lot of people will like to spend that much money on those retrofit, anyone agree?

 

A lot of people probably don't want to spend that much- but that doesn't mean that it's safe or legal.
You can't "aim" the glare from HIDs...You won't drive light directly into peoples eyes- but the glare is annoying from all angles. You also lose some of the effectiveness of the light by aiming the bulbs at the ground.

This is why I hate HIDs. They blind the shit out of everyone! Even if they are "aimed" they glare like a mofo (unless they are projectors). I will only do hids if they are projectors or off road lights.

welcome. I will never use cheap kits on my driving lights because I have the sense to not blind the piss out of everyone, just to be "cool". No if I want to blind the piss out of the the ass that won't turn their brights off with the flash of my brights, then I break out my HIDs.

if they dont have the proper reflector they will be much more blinding than they should. thats why when you install hids in the stock head lights you need to be sure to install them in the proper orientation. IDK if that helps at all but thats all I see that could cause a problem

 

Several reasons...

1. Its illegal (in the United States) to install a Xenon bulb into a halgoen reflector. Yes there is a reflector behind the lens of your projector.
2. The popular 50W HID ballasts will result in a melted reflector housing.
3. You will get bright hot spots and a shitty beam pattern when you stick an HID (Xenon) bulb in the halogen projector.

Will it produce less glare than the factory reflector housing converted to HID? Yes. It will still be the worst HID projector set up you can put in a Tacoma... you litterally cant find ANY projector that has worse beam pattern and output.

$1000 is for all top of the line components and a lot of custom hand made and fitted parts. You can get some mini H1 drop in projectors for your stock headlights and not need to do any cutting and have projectors that are better than most factory projectors as far as beam pattern and output. It will cost less than $600 but you will need to install it yourself when you do a black out headlight mod.

Its no different than car audio... you want a custom built sound system with lots of fiberglass etc its going to cost a ton. You can stick new speakers in the factory slots and buy a prefab sub box for much cheaper.
