Thinking of upgrading to a full size, blasphemy??

My Tacoma is about to hit 90k miles, I love the truck, but with trade in values still decently high I am considering swapping vehicles and either getting a sports car or a full size truck.

Realistically, I want to entertain a sporty car but I know I can't live with it so I'm starting to look into full size trucks.

Anyone able to recommend a full size? I am a Chevy and Toyota guy generally. Looking for an access/extended cab with the long bed if I go Silverado or tundra since it's cheaper and I never have anyone but my dog in the back seat.

    Advice?

Why not stick with an Access Cab Tacoma. If it's just you and your best friend why go full size.
Better gas mileage, better resale value too down the line.

Just looking to switch it up, I'd like a little more power and a longer bed. Granted I could go access cab, and I may just go that route if I can find one in a manual

I should have specified a diesel is out of my price range, likely going with the tried and true 5.3 if I go with a Chevy.

    6.6 gas 2500 not diesel.

I've got a 3.5 eb F-150 I'd recommend that over the 3.5 Tundra. I wouldn't mind having a 2023 F-250 6.8 regular cab STX FX4. STX pkg on Super Duty gives you LED headlights, and what looks like color matched bumpers.

Lots of tech on the Fords which I don't like.

If they still use the variable displacement system, I would stay far away.

We're I to go full size, I would go F250 gas. My work truck is a gas 350 with the 6.2 and it's been beat on pretty hard. It did need front wheel bearing around 44k tho

I have a sports car on the side. I got it when it was cheap. I love my 4x4 truck and impractical roadster combo and am thankful I got the space for them. Thing is, a lot of older but iconic sports cars got more expensive.

It's probably going to be a harder find depending on where you live, but see what your chosen dealership says. The manual access cabs are only available in the TRD Sports in the USA or the TRD Off-Roads in Canada.

I like the 5.7 Tundra over all of the current 1/2 ton offerings.

V8 Tundra is the only way to go. Barring that, you may as well roll the dice on a twin turbo F150.

Most if not all of today's half tons are getting the same MPG as our Tacomas with more comfort and power.

I went from a full size to a Tacoma but did it for different reasons.

Mine always moved to front passenger seat in my 08 AC cab. It was a battle for front seat when wife was with us!

I can't imagine getting one unless I needed it for work, in this economy. To each their own though, probably still a better idea than buying a boat.

I am still kind of upset that I got a 4x4 OR Taco instead of a 2WD Sport.

    $100 at the pump sucks, I can't imagine a V8 Monster.

TACOs can have full cab and longer size bed.

I'll need to tell you I have a real bias. I think the new Tundra with its hyrbrid i-Force Max powertrain is something special and a vehicle you HAVE to look at and experience. Do you realize this new hybrid, is a 3.5-liter, a twin-turbo V6 and it delivers like 380 some horsepower and 480 lb. ft pounds of torque? Yet they are saying it still is capable of delivering an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined city/highway mileage.

It is a larger vehicle so it is not going to handle like a sports car but with close to 500 ft pounds of torque it has got to be a real experience to drive. Take a long hard look and enjoy yourself!

Almost forgot... and it's a Toyota

Ya the cylinder deactivation lifters can seize and destroy the cam, really bad design.

If you are Chevy guy and can afford it, go for it. The 5.3 in a 1500 Silverado is a good choice. You'll the enjoy the extra room, better ride and handling, more power, and at least the same if not better fuel mileage.

I still like the 5.7 RAM 1500 for a full size. My dad had a 2010 and now has a 2017 Laramie 4x4 etc. It's a great truck. It's a pleasure to drive, and I commonly steal it if i need to do any heavy work. I would have bought one myself, but rule number 1 for me is it has to fit in my garage, and that boat definitely will not.

I have no use for a big truck, my Tacoma barely fits in the parking spaces around here.
