Old Fitz is really good but I would give that heaven hill a go for the right price

I picked up something different yesterday. It uses MGP 6 yr old rye and bourbon. I’m not usually a blend guy, but this stuff is great!!

 

How does a single barrel blend work?

One barrel of each component whiskey per batch?

For me, the Old Fitz or the Heaven Hill 27, because, fuck the Pappy hype and those two are ones I will probably never see.

That bottom shelf is most people’s top shelf.

Found this for 28.99 tonight, they had a John J Bowman Single Barrel next to it for $55.99... I think I should go back

 

I got you. Tomorrow is my one day off this week and my only plans are to smoke three racks of ribs and enjoy the day.

 

I believe msrp is $50. At least that’s what it is on the VA abc store site. So yeah, go back haha.

 

I’m not quite sure. Other than a 1:1 ratio, I don’t see it mathing correctly.
That being said, I had a small pour before I bought. If I hadn’t tasted it, I don’t think I would have given it a second look.

 

That. plus, even if you use one barrel of each whiskey type...there's more than one whiskey type. Which means more than one barrel, necessarily.

But then, it's an unregulated term, so there's a lot of gray area.

Regardless, glad it's tasty.

BTW. Does anyone have access to Jameson 12? It seems to have disappeared over the last couple years. J12 is in my top 10.

 

So which of the Bowman bros is the one people say is pretty much Blanton's + a pot still in Virginia? And how true is that? I've heard it mentioned a couple times now

 

Probably taking about John J. Bowman Single Barrel, but that has the same mash bill as Buffalo Trace, not Blanton’s.

 

They discontinued it a number of years ago. I loved it as well. The closest thing they have now is the black barrel. While good not the same.
