I had an external transmission cooler installed recently and I'm concerned if they installed it correctly.

The top port of the radiator is going to the cooler and there's a line from the cooler going back to the transmission. Is this the correct flow? I wanted the cooler plumbed in after the radiator.

    Thanks

@nd4spdbh can you help this guy.

Otherwise, I’ll have to check mine tomorrow.

Yea I just need a picture or someone with cooler to confirm which line from the radiator is going to the cooler.

Top line of radiator to cooler by factory method.

But remember, flow direction is determined by the lines coming out of the trans - one is a send, one is a return, and they're labeled a bit confusingly from Toyota.

The ATF leaves the trans from the upper port (of the trans).

Pretty sure - I put it there. I replaced the stock cooler some time ago. ;)

Ok this gives me relief then. I was about to go back to my mechanic and have him fix it.

I believe factory flow is IN the TOP of the rad, OUT the bottom, then into the aux cooler.

Don't quote me on that, I can verify when I get home later today.

Yea, would be nice to see the factory set up. I just want to know if I gotta get the mechanic to rerun the lines.

The direction through the radiator (up or down) is not so important thermally/mechanically. All it's doing in there is exchanging a little heat with the coolant. This primarily helps bring the ATF up to temp faster in colder conditions.

Yea, I tested out the time to bring the transmission to 100 was about 30 minutes today. About 53 out today.

    Hey man, I am sorry.
I didn’t get a chance to look at mine.
I had to do a repair on a deck and time got away from me.

But it looks like your question has been answered.

Yea couple guys chimed in and said it flows out from the top into the cooler. So I'm happy about that. I thought I was gonna have to take my truck back to the shop. Thanks for getting back to me.

Regardless of which is in/out, follow the line from the metal ATF lines down and behind (engine side) the radiator. The driver-side metal line is the return line. The ATF cooler outlet line should connect to this return line.
    From the ATF DIY thread,

Do trucks w/o tow package (factory cooler) have this plumbing? Does it just run to the rad and back?
