oil filter wrench

I was changing my oil on my 99 tacoma with the 3.4 . I was waiting for the oil to drain, I started to read the label on the toyota brand oil filter box. It said to use a SST wrench to tighten the filter. What the hell is a SST wrench? Dos anyone know what that is ? Just curious !

It's an expensive filter wrench (in this case) "specifically made" for the oil filter.

In other words....useless and not important.

 

just get it as tight as you can with your hands and put another 1/8-1/4 turn on it with a filter wrench and call it good.

No idea what a sst wrench is, sorry

 

Is the Dealer the onyone that carrys it ? Or can I get it at any auto parts store?

There are a variety of types of filter wrench....Are you having problems getting the old filter off??

 

They come in many sizes. Best to have the filter in hand so you can size it.

 

I have found that auto parts sotres near me do not carry filter wrenches specifically for imports.

I bought the filter wrench in Chris's picture from my Toyota dealer.

 

I tried that at two different stores and none of them fit the toyota filter

Must be a Texas thing. We don't want no dang imports here! dodge ftw.

 

Having A hard time getting it tight enough so it dos not leak!

 

^This...or you got a bad filter or something...cause I've never had a filter leak and I've never used a wrench...

I've been using the 'tall' oem filter but last time I was at dealer I wound up w/reg filter. Yesterday I already had oil out and filter off before I realized that tall filter wrench doesn't fit reg. filter. (I know, WTF) I've got 5-6 filter wrenches and none of them fit. Local Advance auto parts had lots of them. No, I didn't drive my truck.

 

I have never used a wrench to put a oil filter on, Hand tight thats it.
Getting them off is another story.
