Is it still worth buying a 2023 Tacoma?

OP quote prices has gone down…not sure about that. I paid 34k out the door before Covid for a brand new 2018. Prices are still high in my opinion and they may stay like that for quite a while due to chip shortage and the previous manufacturer profit loss has suffered from all of this drama as well. Question is, are you getting a good deal paying over 40k-50k? Some cars/truck are very well equipped with a lot more to offer at the same price range.

Just as the 3rd gen forum was when it rolled out. Then as the 4th gen gets ironed out, 3rd gen will slowly turned into the seasoned veterans, as 1st/2nd gen owners need new trucks and accept their fate as a 3rd gen owner. :D

This is inflation. Everything is inflated. If you feel a Tacoma is not worth the value, buy something else.

It does now, I have a feeling that will not be the case in 6-12 months. In 2009, the price for the same truck I already owned was cheaper new than I paid used a year earlier. If you love manuals, buy it, if not, wait.

If they were desirable Toyota would continue to produce them. But too few people want them. I have a friend that is a new car manager at one the local dealerships. He says if he has a manual Taco sitting on the lot, 300 people will walk past it if they know it's manual. The fact that it's a manual will ultimately be what sells it. But only to a limited pool of people.

Having a very low volume powertrain variant adds a lot of cost and unnecessary complexity to the production line. Doesn't make for smart business despite a few purists having their heartstrings pulled.

A few of us old guys or a hand full of diehards on a forum don't pay the bills.

Whether it makes used ones more valuable in the future remains to be seen. But if they are, it will only be to private buyers, not dealerships.

IMO the Maverick might be the most practical and versatile vehicle out there....especially in hybrid form. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I were in the truck market.

I was going to wait a couple years before i bought a new truck but decide to buy 2023 TRD Offroad. I was told it would be delivered in December. Like everyone has said it's going to take a couple years for them to work out the kinks in the new gen and the idea of not having a v6 option was another reason I decided to get one now.

What would that have to do with anything? The Baja plant has more Tacoma production experience than any other facility....including Freemont and San Antonio.

Hell yeah it is!!! Just got mine. All in all, a 3 week process, the guy who was in line for this one, cancelled, so I got bumped up. Mine was slated to be delivered Mid November anyway. New 2023 baby!!!

shout out to Paul at Longo. If anyone is in SoCal and needs a no BS, always to answer sales manager, hmu. At MSRP too (which only now feels like a deal).

I can't wait to be a salty Old Gen twat haunting the Newest Gen forum, crowing with delight at any perceived owner misfortune but secretly wishing I could afford one. It'll be epic.

percentage wise theh sell few manuals. but as far as volume goes being the class leader in sales they do actually sell a large amount of manuals. there are almost as many manual transmission tacomas sold as there are gmc canyons. this is with basically zero marketing and very limited production. hell every person ive ever mentioned the manual tacoma too didnt even know they were still optioned with one. people wont buy what they dont know exists. being one of the last 2 trucks in north america available with a stick fits it in a niche market. also im sure there is already a manual trans being developed for the hilux overseas that could be fitted to next gen tacoma. i still doubt toyota will sell it though.

Overseas markets are different. Toyota builds what each market wants. Americans, as a collective, don't want manuals. It's been a dying variant for some time.

Just over 30 years ago Toyota produced a manual Previa. Can you imagine the average soccer mom/dad rowing their own gears in a modern mini van today? Hell, a good percentage of people don't even know how to drive one. And really that's ok. It used to be a skill that had to be passed down. As a kid of the 70s and 80s it was almost mandatory that I learned as so many vehicles were manuals back then. But today....no need really. And as the market slowly moves towards EVs even automatic transmissions will be a thing of the past....much less manuals.

Manufacturer didn’t kill the manual transmission. The consumer did. Rest assured, if there was money in it, they would continue to produce them. Being in the industry I see it. It simply isn't cost effective to have such a low volumn powertrain variant on a production floor for a massed produced vehicle.

I grabbed this soon as it hit allotment schedule. Lunar Rock did it. Mfg 12/4, ETA dealer, 1/5 or sooner. No un-needed options.

Sold our '04 Tacoma Pre-Runner a month ago, then started to source a '23 Tacoma SR5 in silver or MG. Four states, and there was dealers that would not sell out of state or their market area. Everything was pre-sold. The dealer we bought a '21 4WD Tacoma from, called an said a current allotment has 3 TRD Off Roads due in January, '23. Deposit made on this OR, options $727.00, I can live with that. I am now trying to get the LED headlights added before production.
We did get a '22 4R-4WD in January this year, zero options, Plain Jane SR5-MG, took 9 weeks.

No money, all went to truck...

I'm not so sure its about saving face. Their hybrids are definitely still some of the best MPGs out there. They have a solid, reliable platform that matches the infrastructure in the US. The interview was specifically about trucks and SUVs. Long off-road trips are not suited for EV trucks. You can carry gas, you can't recharge an EV very easily. They feel that putting out large scale EV trucks and SUVs without proper infrastructure is irresponsible.

I agree, US needs to increase infrastructure before more EVS are produced. And really, what company has large scale production of reliable EVs? Besides Tesla, not too many....
