    A bit of progress. If it would stay light until 8:30 I could have had half of the joists hung tonight.




    I was pretty close on the initial setting of the posts. I only had to adjust the one under the 1st joist by about 1 1/4" laterally ( in line with the other posts) to get all of the numbers to add up. Not too bad considering I only used a plum bob and a 30 year old tape measure and some scribbled dimensions from the old deck.

    did you space the screws in the beam so that they wont interfere with your joists when it comes time to secure them to the beam?

    Thanks for thinking about that, but the joists go over the top of the beam, like in the last pic. I will use hurricane tie brackets to anchor the joists to the beam.

    You're lucky the border is soo close. Most folks don't live close enough to reap that benefit. Washington is among the worst states for fuel taxes. Though if I lived as close to the Idaho border as you do, I think I'd go ahead and move everything over the border and not look back...
