Modern “mid size” trucks are almost as big as full size 20-25 years ago.

I thought I saw a Toyota promotion just yesterday at 2.9% for 72 months for a new truck.

Unless you by a diesel RAM. They are barely more than a gasser in all the full-size models.

I had a 2018 Tundra before my Tacoma and I think if I go full size again it would be a new Tundra. The markups are crazy still though.

Nowadays, especially… doesn’t really matter getting more than you paid. Tacoma resell has always been great.
On top of everything costing more. Do a real vs nominal inflation calc. You will see that you never win. But if that’s what you want go for it! Just don’t go into things thinking you are going to come out that much better unless you have a once in a lifetime deal.
However, if a full size fits your needs then weigh the pros/cons of the transaction.

You don't give the year/model/condition of your Tacoma. But if you can shake the notion of having to buy new and having to trade in, you may well be able to buy a nice used full size domestic (Ford/Chevy/GMC) and a C+ grade used sports car for what you could sell your truck for outright.

I often ran 3 vehicles in a 2 driver household for way less than most made in one vehicle payments by getting the right used rides from individuals. An SUV for road trips/more bodies (Highlander), a sports car for work commute and SCCA fun (Miata) and a small pickup for foul weather and home projects (Sonoma).

Mark ups are why I won't consider the new Tundra. I guess if Ireally wanted one, I'd have to accept the mark up or find one at MSRP. I don't need a fullsize, and will most likely go back to a midsize. I would only buy a new Tacoma, if I could find the exact configuration I want in the color of my choice, and I won't pay over MSRP.

If I'm going to settle, I'll settle for vehicle that's not a Toyota, and pay less money. I like Toyota, but I don't care about brand loyalty.

I do like the looks of the heavy duty trucks, and would rather have the current Ford, or GM trucks. The new features on both of those are impressive, but I prefer less tech.

If we were on a pre-COVID timeline when domestic trucks still had $9500 of discounts I probably would have bought a basic F-150.

I really wanted a '21 F-150 XL extended cab (back seat about as big as a crew cab Tacoma) with the 6.5-foot bed, 3.3-liter NA V6 (port- and direct-injected) 10-speed automatic, 4WD, rear locker, front bench seat, column shifter, vinyl floor and 36-gallon gas tank (like a 800-mile range with the base V6). It's only about 10" longer than a CCLB Tacoma but weighs about the same (aluminum body) and has a little more peak power and more flexibility from the 10-speed.

This is almost $46k now (which is too much for what it is, IMO) but it was right at $42k back in May 2021, and if they'd had the normal $9000+ of incentives at the time I would have bought it. But there were none at the time so I bought a $30,500 Tacoma SR 4x4 2.7L at MSRP less $500 rebate + $199 doc fee which felt pretty safe. It's been great but I would really like the extra bit of power, better transmission, little more elbow room and -- especially the bench seat/column shift/vinyl floor combo. And being able to order the rear locker as a standalone option instead of having to jump to a $5000 more expensive trim on the Tacoma is nice.

I would go ford f150, prices are to the moon right now though.

If tundra it would be used with a 5.7L

If you need a big truck, you need a big truck. If you don't need a big truck stay with Tacoma.

I'm much more familiar with Ford's offerings, but you can get an F150 with the turbocharged 2.7 V6 that will get better fuel mileage than a Tacoma. It isn't the most powerful Ford Engine for towing, but it is actually the fastest. And if you choose your options carefully it will tow 9,000+ lbs. Even the base models are rated at over 7000 lbs.

I agree. If it has Cylinder deactivation…run. That pretty much eliminates GM/Ram. I’m not sure if the Ford 5.0L has it and really don’t care. (If being honest).

My work truck is a 2015 F-250 6.2L CC SB. It’s been reliable but only has 16k miles. So it should be. Wouldn’t wanna pay for fuel though.

    A few.
Spending time on fuelly.com shows differently with an average mpg across a large mumber of owners. I personally get 3 mpg better with the tacoma compared to the Ram 1500 Hemi i traded for it.

Cylinder deactivation can be turned off with a handheld programmer. Ive done so on my Dodge Challenger.

Absolutely and I would do the very same thing ASAP. Only down side is now you became the warranty department regarding the engine (most likely, and with my dealings with Dodge/Ram it’s pretty good chance). Can’t you turn it off manually every time the vehicle is started as well? (Which would be annoying)

Mine weighs in at 9k and I get 11mpg no matter how I drive it. The 6.2 has been solid, but it looks like they are replacing it with a pushrod 6.3 soon.

I keep building a 350 XL with the 7.3 on the website. That's a lot of truck for 57k.

Damn. We get around 11 mpg as well empty but that also could be due to elevation efficiency loss (6k ft).

I actually can comment on the 7.3L/10 speed. If you haven’t driven one…do it. I have been more than happy with the performance. If you do a 5 StarTuning it’s even better.

The boys and I took this ‘21 F-350 Tremor on a week long bachelor party in the mountains…very impressive.

No. There is no button to turn it off. The only way to bypass it is by using the autostivk feature where u shift the transmission manually.
