Looks the same. I didn't see that post. But I can see delaying the cruiser. Their pickup line is important in the USA market.

Never heard anyone ask for a $90,000 Tacoma. That's how much an electric Tacoma would cost after R&D, and before Toyota raises the price due to material scarcity.

Toyota never planned on building the majority of thoes bz concepts. They only planned to walk back the announcement.

Keeping the charging cable under the truck floor is not a good idea. Not when people store junk back there. You would need to empty the trunk to access your charging cable.

No comparison. The Taco can be a great overland vehicle with limited mods. The Rivian will never be an overland vehicle.

    God Bless,

Anyone can overland the mall where most Tacomas hang out. ;)

In all seriousness though there are definite benefits to both trucks for sure.

A Tacoma could never pull my trailer for instance.

Well that's not true. Rivian's have been overlanding fine.

As long as you don’t stray too far from a charging station.

300ish mile range means 150ish mile there & back. My Chevy 3500 with a 454 couldn’t get that kinda range even with a 36 gallon tank. But I s’pose the true, published, verified specs of a superior EV don’t fit very well into the sky is falling doom & gloom narrative?

As it there are plenty of very remote places left in North America. I drove to the tip of Baja in my tacoma taking largely unpaved routes. I would have to significantly alter my route to do the same trip in an EV. That will definitely get better as charging infrastructure improves but it still remains an obstacle for people like me who take their trucks to remote parts of the country. Thats obviously a very small percentage of owners but it still matters to some of us. I plan on exploring Alaska and interior B.C eventually. There's also the ability to carry extra fuel with your with ICE. I don't think there are currently any easy ways to extend range of EV's in the outback. That being said 80% of driving I do would be suitable for an EV. Also there are plenty of ICE trucks that get over 450 miles of range if not more.

Drove my buddy’s Rivian on Friday. Holy shit it’s fast! And the adaptive suspension magic is sweet. If they make one with a slightly longer bed…

…I’ll still be too broke to buy one. But damn that’s a cool truck.

Ah yes. Comparing one of the biggest ICE engines normally used in a truck to someone posting about a Tacoma’s range. Of course your gas guzzling 454 is going to have ass range.

To be fair my Tacomas could barely get more than 300 miles on a tank.

To be extra fair, neither were entirely stock. The 2nd gen had all the BS added, the 3rd gen just 255/85/16 heavy tires and rock sliders.

With all the off-road modifications, lift, 285 tires, sliders, upgraded armor, etc. my 5th generation 4Runner got about 13 miles per gallon.

Once you load the truck down with gear and add a rack system with a tent, awnings, bike rack, kayak, etc. you aren’t getting 300 miles of range anymore. Hopefully members here can give us the true range as they build out their trucks and go on adventures.

I get around 320 miles before the gas light comes on. Then I could theoretically go another 50 miles or so until running the tank dry.

Did anything ever come out of that article that i think motortrend wrote where the batteries had significant drain just sitting at camp?

I believe a software update fixed the issue.
