The top vent helps keep dust out of the bed.

I have an adventure, solid side panels, and at night flip open the side panels and use bug netting attached by magnetic strips for ventilation.

I'm running two 100W panels up there now. A little more dust, but not bad.

    No!

I always keep a flashlight and Philips screwdriver inside the cap. Remove the screw, and latch mechanism can be pushed out freeing you from the inside.

If you are camping with a bunch of drunk idiots, I recommend opening the latch and engaging the lock. This prevents the latch from being latched, locking you in.

Federal law about toppers needing to be opened from the inside. RSI has promised to ship out replacement latches to be compliant but still has yet to ever see the updated latch.

They're slow at development probably because they're made in South Africa, I'm guessing. I'd really like to see an updated latch soon as my '23 DCLB is slated to arrive at the end of the year and I'd be in the market for a topper shortly after.

I believe I may wait for a bit, I’d like a solid drivers side panel with the full bin and a glass passenger panel so the puppers have plenty of air flow back there on longer trips.

I went this route-- simply swapped doors with another member on here. It is the best of both worlds IMO and super happy I did it. My bin on the driver side has a solid door while my dog sticks his head out the window on the passenger side.

That makes sense i suppose... less air coming in through the top to create the positive pressure. Would you say its essentially as "dust proof" as a standard shell now? I am looking to possibly ditch my prinsu rack on my cab and just use the 3 x 1020 bars I put on top of the RSI. I could be in the same situation very soon.

How difficult is it to remove the doors on the sides?

Honestly it is easier than you would even anticipate. I removed it by myself in ~15 min or so, you just need a a 10mm and 13mm socket and a SKINNY set of plyers or box wrench for the strut connection. I found a cheap throw away box wrench that had come with a piece of furniture or something that fit perfect, but I forget the size off hand.

Ugh… both locks on my back hatch have completely frozen, fortunately in the unlocked position. I have tried using different lubricants to unstick them, but to no avail. I have used several of the dozen or so keys RSI sent with the cap… still stuck. I’m leaving on a hunting trip next week and need to be able to lock stuff in my truck bed. Anyone have a similar issue? Any tips for unsticking the locks? Should I just swap one of the functional side hatch locks onto the back? Help me oh hive mind!

When are those redesigned latches coming out? <grumble>

Honestly I find the locks to be terrible even in warm temps. Always seems like a fight to get the key in all the way or pulling back out. Need yo lube but that always seems to attract dirt.

Ever tried graphite powder? Won't attract as much dirt and it should be sealed a bit better with the covers installed. Just a suggestion - I haven't gone this route.

I saw the redesigned locks at Expo East. They are due to release late 2022/early 2023 is what I was told

Are they saying that they will ship out new locks to all existing owners or just installing them on the new caps going forward?

I was honestly hoping the redesigned locks would be on the street by now. They were supposed to be out in the Spring, then the Summer… and now maybe by early 2023. My locks started getting a little gritty / sticky in September, but I hit them with graphite and it seemed a little better. I went to lock my cap the other day and the key won’t even turn in either of them. I hit them with some heavy duty lube and let them sit overnight… nada.

Both latches on the side doors function beautifully, so I may swap one off one side and onto the back so I can at least lock one of the latches on the back hatch. This cap is amazing, but the latches are a serious flaw.

(pic for a little appreciation of my hunting / camping truck)

that's a bummer to hear, especially for a topper that costs over $4000! And yea, RSI needs to pump out updated locks like yesterday!

I've been putting CorrosionX in mine about every 6-9 months and they're still buttery smooth. I'm wondering if it's corrosion in your locks that is causing the problem. I've got plenty of dust out here in SoCal and haven't had an issue with them getting gummed up using CorrosionnX
