That would suck. Guess it would be a bonus for the manual trans guys…

Thank’s for the reply. Appreciate that.

    A few.
Correct the manuals dont have it. The autos actually come with larger exhaust resonators to deal the the drone when it goes into 4 cylinder mode.

OP is this a fashion statement or do you actually need a truck? You mentioned longer bed. Why? How do you use your truck? You've offered very little insight to your needs.

Therefore, further input withstanding, I recommend a 1977 Chevy Luv long bed.

Interesting. I didn’t know any of the Domestics run standard transmissions anymore.

Something tells me I will be forced to buy a ICE truck in the next 5 years to get me though the next 10 years after that. Crazy all the equipment added to get .02 mpg. Hell I don’t even have TPMS sensors in my GMC due to the GVWR is over 11000 lbs. Yet another reason I gave up on 3/4 ton trucks.

Ha!!! I have a buddy in OK rebuilding a LUV for his ranch truck. Been a fun project since he really doesn’t need to be bouncing around in an expensive F-350.

Coming from an F-350 there are downsides to big trucks. The bed is actually less useful in some because it’s so high it can be hard to load. Fuel mileage hurts. Outside of the hybrids, I don’t know any full size that reliably gets 20 mpg. Everything costs more to fix. From a reliability perspective, the only one I’d consider is the 5.7 Tundra. I’d only get a bigger truck if there’s really a need. Just my opinion.

Never underestimate a good utility trailer. I have three full-size pickups and I still use the trailer for most anything I need to haul.

Same here. Unless I’m hauling a TV or something light and easily strapped down…out comes the trailers. I would like to get a smaller 18’ conventional trailer again for the smaller items.

I got a little 12' landscaping trailer with the 36" sides and a top rail with a removable fold down gate and that thing is so handy. I welded some hooks on the sides and pack it full of whatever and throw a cargo net on it. If something is longer than 12' I pull the gate off. So easy to load. Great investment.

That would be perfect right there. I may have to look into that once I get some of my current stock reduced. (Currently have 3)

Nothing wrong with full size truck. Nothing wrong with Tacos. But what you can afford and enjoy for as long as it still appeals to you. I have a feeling that the market is going to loosen up a bit as this great economy we keep hearing about continues to fall on it's face.

Oh hell yeah. I see trailers like that often. AF958B09-CE8F-4E85-AEEB-3148E73FEEB4.png

You can always tell the trailers that get loaned out to friends. Axle or spindle bent and wearing the inside edge of the tires. Some people forget these are light duty utility trailers, not something you try loading up 2.5 tons of equipment on it.

The fold down ramp would be very welcomed. My stored ramps are 80+ lbs each and those get old pulling out several times per day.

Good point. As a rule I never use these little trailers for anything that gets dumped into the bed. I have had 3,000lbs on mine and it hauls it well but I would not want to put anything more on it. I use this for trash runs, its nice to throw all the branches and leaves in for a week when I prune then haul it away. It's great for moving household goods or helping someone move as you can put a fridge or gun safe on it and strap it to the sides. I had a neighbor ask if he could use it to go get a load of rock and I quickly informed him that it is not for that. I saw one in my neighborhood this summer that must have been loaded with several tons of rock, the axle had a huge bow under the weight and the wheels looked like a civic with the wheels leaning in at a 30 degree angle. We drove past it and I told my wife, well they just ruined that trailer. This one is light duty but it tows really well on the highway and fits that versatility role of being in the suburbs well.

Growing up I lived on a farm and we had a small dump truck. We had a bunch of rental properties and I would go to the corey and get loads of rock for the driveways and would see people with small trailers and even pickups getting loaded by the huge loaders, the operators appeared to almost think it was a game to see how much weight someone would let them put on something. I would see trucks loaded to where the bump stops were directly on the frame with the springs bowed over and the tires looking like they were about to blow out and people would pull away. Other times the operator would screw up and empty an extra ton on accident if they had to much in the bucket. Yeah, I don't use any of my stuff for that crap. I get stuff like that delivered.

Reminds me of when I was a teenager and my dad had an old 78 F100 with a 400 big block in it. It was a farm rig but was street legal so we used it to run around in. Someone had welded a 1/4 plate steel drop bumper on the rear where you could hook hay wagons and whatever to it. I was cutting a huge green oak tree that had fallen in a storm down in a ravine. I was using a saw with a 20" bar and had to cut from both sides to get through it. So I back this old beast of a truck down in this ravine, my dad had told me to use a trailer and a tractor but I knew better. I was splitting the tree into about 8 pieces of firewood each before loading on the truck. I remember I kept cutting and loading and this ol beast was just not squatting. I continued to load until the wood was piled up to the top on the cab and wood would fall off and I tried to add more. I was so proud of myself and the truck was taking the load like a champ. I get in and remember having to put the chainsaw in the cab because the bed was so full. I throw it in gear and pull away and all hell broke loose! The truck strains and as it started to move I hear a loud bang and feel the backend slam to the ground. I get out and take a look and realize I had backed that bumper over an old stump and it allowed the truck to settle about 2" onto it. When I pulled away that bumper went to the ground and broke both rear shocks and busted the tabs off the rear. So I unloaded all the wood. Spent my afternoon getting new shocks and fabing some new rear shackles. It ended up being about 3 loads of wood.

My neighbor just had the dealer buy his 3 month old F-150 back because they could not figure out what was wrong with it. They put him in a F-250 Tremor for a $5,000 upcharge. They convinced him to get the fuelie though so I suspect they could not move it. I guess we will see how that ones does.

This is where I see the most overloading is material like rocks and wood. Funny you mention rocks…I haul them a lot.

In your best guess, what do you think this load weighs? (Material only, fill dirt)

I have no real reason to sell my truck aside from it's inflated value, Don't need a fancier one. I don't daily drive my trucks, cars are so much nicer to live with day to day! No way I'd buy a full size unless I had several good reasons to own one. Even then I'd probably buy a diesel medium duty truck instead and put it to work.

I would say 5-7 thousand. We had a lowboy a lot like this I used to use to pull medium size tractors on.
