Yeah I get trying to time the market... which is how I'm ending up with a '23 Tacoma Pro. It's not really what I wanted, but it will hold me over till what I want is available, and I'm sure there will be plenty of enthusiasts willing to take it off my hands in a year or two especially since my plan is to keep it stock and well cared for.

If a new Land Cruiser is built as robust as the older ones, I could be game, so it's exciting speculation. I like the idea of a 25 year vehicle.

Anecdotally, the DCLB 4X4 Tacoma's are a large seller in Canada. Don't have the numbers tho. No 2WD Tacoma's as well. We also can't get the 4cyl. Overall, we have less to choose from here.

We get strange trims up here. OR is only short bed and Sport is only long bed (automatics).

Agree completely. Let's also not forget Toyota has been producing reliable turbo diesel motors for the past 3 decades w/ the 1KD & 1KZ powerplants. A turbo'd 4 banger from Toyota is the natural next step for their competitive efforts against other vehicle manufacturers

Overall, from what I understand, ever tightening emissions regulations are driving the bus. I read somewhere that apparently, this why Toyota is reluctantly moving to small displacement turbo engines.

The new AMG 63’s use a 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder coupled with a hybrid system. That should make it pretty clear what direction all manufacturers are going.

People buy a Cherokee because the 4runners are all sold. Good luck finding a 4runner on the lot new in AZ. You may find a stray sr5 2wd but even those are tough to find.

    Somewhat yes.

Still, BEV performance and driveability is superior but the batteries are EXPENSIVE. With a small gas engine giving range you can have a small battery but the driveability of a BEV. Make the battery a little bigger and you get a phev which is arguably the best of both worlds.

We picked up a cheap Prius for our teen to drive and the gas motor and the CVT transmission are the worst part of that drivetrain.

We ordered a 22 4runner last year after 6 months of no word we bought a used pro because they couldn't tell us anything. I ordered a 23 Tundra they told me 16 months so I bought a Tacoma pro in the meantime but may just hold out for the next gen Tacoma at the end of 24 or early 25. I really think the 4runner is hard to get hands on as people want the last of the best. I am very skeptical of what the next 4 Runner will be better than this. Yes its out dated but people that buy them don't care about that it is the simpleness of it and bullet proof reliability.

No, offense but let's end this now (the skepticism).

I really don't understand why you keep posting pessimistic commentary in regards to a vehicle already confirmed for production internally, as it starts to come across as disinformation when it goes against any of us trying our best to reliably report on the incoming product without hurting Toyota's corporate confidentiality. Both 920B Tacoma and 930B 4Runner will be 100% redesigned for Toyota showrooms in 2024. No ifs and buts about it. I have said this so many times, but I realize that I keep coming across a few of your posts from time to time, which reek too much of misplaced skepticism bordering on folks challenging the known expectation that a new truck would debut in 2023 as a 2024 model.

A few of us have seen Toyota's internal planning and this vehicle redesign has been on the docket since 2016. It has been a production grade program since 2019-20 and the final design was defined long ago. If not for some unwelcome delays over indecisiveness in late 2020-early 2021, it would be already in dealers. I have already heard they are spending a lot on the interior of the next 4Runner and that T24A is offered, plus some crazy insight from another member here who is close to the project as a supplier on a great deal of future Toyota and Lexus models! Although, I'll say I greatly disagree with them on some inconsistences regarding the GX550 and GX550h.

I wouldn't have any doubt in this area, as the 4Runner is coming for MY 2025.

    Minding my business...

Anyway, according to one of my contacts and a lot of info I have been withholding for weeks/months in my absentia, production is still a go for December 1, 2023 at TMMGT and TMMBC in Mexico.

You will begin seeing spy shots next month of the final article, because the prototyping chief has let on that his 920B team will begin building these vehicles in a few days.

    Hey man!
Good to hear from you again!
For those new guys who are reading @Carmaker1 posts for the first time, he does not work for Toyota but works in the industry and always has valuable and true insight with respect to the Tacoma. So pay attention! He is not speculating...

I just spent the last two weeks driving a Hilux. I think it would be cool if Toyota merged the Hilux and Tacoma platforms into one.

I think it would be even more awesome if they brought back the single cab, I’m finding my access cab is a bit long compared to my 2013 single cab.

Engine wise, I would be happy if they just kept the 2.7. I’ve given up on seeing a diesel. I’m hoping if they do turbo, it will be reliable.

Hilux in the current generation is absolutely hideous. While the 3rd gen is probably the best looking tacoma to date... I hope Toyota takes the current styling direction of the Tundra/Sequoia and applies it to the 4th gen.... it would be a great looking truck...

It’s not the best looking truck, but it is functional and doesn’t have the unnecessarily long front end the Tacoma has.

Sure, but I never really understood the Hilux hype machine... They have been pretty mediocre for a while.

    This is plain :puke:

I’m OK with it. They make good work trucks. and the front approach angle is 100 times better without all the EPA shit.

What's everyone think the chances are they go to one bed/cab combo like the Colorado/Canyon/Gladiator?

I'd like to wait for the new generation, but if they're going to axe the access cab and long bed I might need to snag a 2023.
