Ok, I'm nearly ready to take the Duratrac plunge. I'm going to go with the 265/70R17 load class C mounted on my new Konig Countersteer Offroad wheels (which from another post looks like will require a slight lift). One question:

Has anyone used Dynabeads with the Duratracs? I'm planning to go that route and would like to hear if anyone has had an issue.

Alright, so I'm headed out wheeling tomorrow and will be spending a lot of the day in deep snow (I'm in Alaska). Does anyone have any experience airing down their Duratrac's? How are the sidewalls for low PSI flex? How low of a PSI can I safely go? Anyone have any input for me?

    Thanks!

This sounds like an interesting solution. I'd like to hear if anyone else has tried it before also.

Dynabeads are horrible. They were developed for 18 wheelers that spend 8 hours at 60 mph. They don't work well for vehicles doing around town driving. Get a Road Force balance instead.

I've been running a set of 265 75 R16's for about 18 months, I have 35K miles on them and about 3/16th tread left. Most of the driving is city/highway driving. I love these tires! No trouble on road or off road. I will be buying another set.

How much trimming did the guys running the 285's on a 2.5 or 3" lift have to do? Looking at going to this set-up but reading through this thread concerns me with how many guys are rubbing, even some of them with just 265's. Thanks

I had to cut the bottom 1/3 off of my inner fenders and clip the corners off of my fender flares. Running 1.5" Spidertrax or I'd probably have to also cut the cab mount too. Still rub a bit when I have my plow on. I'm running a 2.5" Hell Bent Steel leveling kit in the front and TSP rear springs. My tires are Duratrac 285/70-17s. Will have a "real lift" someday...hopefully soon.

Dang I'm only 2.5 in the front and no wheel spacers, 265 may be how I have to go. That's a lot of trimming, thanks for the info man

Im running a 3" Pro Comp lift and only had to do very minimal trimming.
And my wheels have a -12 offset

That's good news, I'm actually running the same wheel as you are so I'll be in pretty much the same boat. I'm running a 265 toyo on those revolvers now and they look weak compared to yours. Thanks for the input

3" lift. I had convinced myself they would fit no problem before reading this thread actually. I bought and mounted some 295/70/17 nitto trail grapplers last week because I found them super cheap but there was absolutely no way I could run them without chopping lots of fender well so I sold them... I like this tire much better, especially with minimal trimming

O nice sounds good, I was thinking about Nitto Trails at first but then I saw the duratracs and was sold.

I asked. My tire guy about the nitto trails he said 295s were ok to use and I wouldn't rub
Lol i looked at him and said ur shitting me right .. Cuz I know I gotta trim on 285s ... But I'm thinking 285 duratracs or 265 nittos I'm leaning towards the duratracs

I'm running a 285 on my stock sport wheel. You will just need wheel spacers, I have spidertrax.

I picked up a set of 265/75-16 Duratracs two months ago from my local tire dealer. The stock Rugged Fails were wearing down, and while I could have gone another 10k on them in good weather, I didn't think they would make it through another NH winter. That and I wasn't happy after I hydroplaned down the high-speed toll lane one day.

I had them road-forced balanced and also had an alignment. Still, the tires had a slight vibe at 50-60 mph. I was going to take them back to be rebalanced but I just haven't had the time to do it, and I didn't think the vibe was that bad. I drive mostly around 70 mph on the highway and they are pretty smooth at that speed. I agree with everyone else about the noise and the wandering - although it's not really that bad and it's probably not any worse than any other aggressive a/t tire. My mpg has gone down a little bit, but it wasn't stellar to begin with. I also noticed a slight decrease in power because of the larger-than-stock size. It's not that much, but since I have the 6-speed I can notice it a little more.

With that said, the tires handle awesome in all conditions. They have excellent wet traction and do pretty well in the snow. I don't think I could get better snow traction unless I had dedicated snow tires with studs, and even then it probably wouldn't be that much better.

I haven't decided yet if I will run these year-round or get a set of summer tires, may something milder with better road manners. I don't do a ton of off roading - most of it I do in the winter - so I could get by with a regular A/T or highway tire for the summer.
