I have never flown on Qatar but would like to try! My Emirates flight had 25 crewmembers on board representing 20 countries and 16 languages. Our US flag airlines could only DREAM of that level of diversity!

Yea but on the legacy US airlines have the born in 1945-1965 age range very well represented. :rofl:You get to hear such enlightening stories of how many cats and what their names are, these new fangled computer things that are a fad and questions about how to program the VCR.

...^^^... ha ha ... that really made me laugh :D ... and sooooo true ...

Betty Nash (American Airlines) was the USA's oldest FA at at 86  ... yes 86 ... not a typo.

Delta had a FA that worked as a FA for 59 years ... yes 59 years on the job and she was making big bucks too ... this was on our local ATL news a couple of years ago IIRC.

The shelf-life of a Qatar FA is probably not very long ... but they look great doing their jobs :) and very professional and always smiling.

Impressive, somewhat a marketing film, as compared to the wikipedia notes on the aircraft, it had its challenges.

Some unsolicited advice: When you fly for time building, don't just fly to get hours. Go to fly-in breakfasts, get those $100 hamburgers, take non-aviation friends and introduce them to the world we get to live in, maybe find somewhere to camp under the wing... Create a GA bucket list and start checking things off. Once you "make it" and begin flying professionally, it will be real hard to find time to do those things you can only do in GA.

That sums up my flying life. I'm mostly out for the experience as I do it for fun. It's interesting to talk to professional pilots and compare how we view flying. Some of the guys I know just view flying as a job and whatever was fun about it is long past. I guess anything gets like that when it's a job instead of a hobby.
I know an ag pilot who recommends never getting into ag flying if you love to fly.

Absolutely! I give merit to 'don't fly the same hour 1500 times' mentality.

I've already got a long GA list...and high expectations...just have to get money to make it happen. Already checked off tri-motor time...working towards PT-26, and upwards to Beech, etc....Sea and tail wheel up soon! Maybe try to eek out a plane purchase to explore with the wife and build that fun-factor.

    Appreciate it!

Congrats! There is a lot of fun to be had in aviation.

Enjoy the whole ride, the good and the sometimes not so good. When it does get tough just tell yourself, "... easy day...".

Again, just enjoy the whole ride.

Go for it, and don't just drone along for hours. Make it worthwhile for experience other than just another .1 on the hobbs and logbook. Way too many people I know did a 141 college program followed by a regional with only flying three or four airplanes (C172, PA28R, PA44 or similar) then went on to jets and they all said they missed out on the fun while working towards the goal. All have said that life snuck up on them and don't have time or funds once their careers took off. One person I met never landed on grass and they are a pilot at a major airline! Talk about missing out on fun. Do all these things now while you have the chance.

Good luck, and shoot me a message if you have any questions about the unconventional flying that is out there.

I love where this thread has gone. It’s great to see new pilots starting and experienced pilots giving advice. We all came here for Tacomas, but I imagine that aviation is the true passion.
It’s crazy to think how fast nearly 7 years has gone since this little thread started.

Any new pole ideas we should post up?

Couple of recent back seat rides.

I got my PPL recently and got 120 hours so far and my instructor at my school also does some cool flying outside of the school. Ive got it in the plans to go get my tailwheel endorsement and go try landing at some dirt strips

    Congrats on the PPL!
I'd be happy only flying tailwheel the rest of my flying life if I had to. I love an approach that requires a slip to get into. Low and slow is my life.

As much as I love the super cub, the 182 makes a great grass strip plane too if you don't get the tailwheel.

    byrds182.2.jpg

My home airport also has a grass strip next to the main runway if I just need to get in the grass without going anywhere. I probably use it more than the hard runway.
