Makes you wonder if EVs made cooler noises would they be on board with switching from ICE?

Do like that side slideout/stowage area if it is like the ones I've seen in pics. See one running around in the morning on the way to drop my son off at school. Front is a little funky but the truck overall doesn't look bad. Have to agree if you are just looking for a vehicle to drive around and not do any truck stuff with but want to have a "truck" it fits the bill. I would probably take a Maverick or Santa Cruz over it if I was going to need to haul anything in the bed.

Ah got it. That makes sense.

I don’t have EV-Phobia by the way. They have their place. I don’t have any plans to get one anytime soon. Although would be nice for commenting.

Speaking of trailhead fuel ups (I’ve also never started a trail at a gas station) one big advantage ICE has is being able to easily carry extra fuel. Something you can’t do with an EV unless you sit for x time with a Solar panel. I’m sure that’s already been covered in the 200 pages. Just crossed my mind after reading your post.

You could charge with a generator at the trailhead. A Predator 9500 inverter generator ($2400) burning about 1.5gal/hr at full output can provide 7kw output. The 6.8gal tank lasts about 4.5hrs and would deliver ~32kw to the truck on one tank. That’s ~70 miles range or 10mpg. Not practical at all but totally doable if needed.

Those are both way, way, way cheaper but still have the same size bed and nearly identical payload ratings. The Rivian more than double les their towing capacity though.

True but what do you lose on the overall mileage range under load?

I’m sure the R1T is at least 10x more fun to drive though.

A guy that tested it at full payload capacity had a 7% range decrease. Not a lot of other data to compare with but the testing was done pretty well.

I’m not going to lie, if I saw a Rivian pulled over on a trail hauling gas and a generator to charge I’d laugh a little.

But realistically it’s going to have enough range for pretty much any trail a normal person is going to do.

I’ve driven a couple of Model 3’s, the R1T, an i3 and a Leaf, and to me one cool thing about EV’s is the quiet acceleration. I like the scream, thump, or growl of an ICE as much as the next guy … for about 30 seconds. I haven’t had a modified an exhaust system since the Seventies. As they used to say, “Less sound, more ground”.

For fun I hooked up the truck to my trailer to see if it would charge. My trailer has a built in Onan 3.6kw propane generator that burns .5gal/hr at half output. The truck wouldn’t let me increase above 12 amp charge rate which should equal 1.44kw but the truck showed 2kw charge rate. It can’t display decimal places so I’m guessing it just rounds up. Regardless, it works.

Generator burn solely for charging the truck should have been about .4gal/hr and I just paid $3.69/gal to fill the 30lb/7.4gal propane tank. A full tank would charge for 18.5hrs, provide 26.6kw of charge or 55 miles at a cost of ~$27. Not worth it except in the most extreme cases.

That’s the thing about a typical modified ICE car, you can be going the speed limit or slower and people get angry at you because you need to “slow down!” (because they equate noise and speed). In an EV, you’ll never have those issues.

Are you calling me batshit stupid? People that call others stupid generally aren’t the smartest themselves. Do some research. People are not getting 300 mile range while loaded with gear or anything other than perfect driving conditions.

Why do you even want a Rivian? It seems like you already have 3 perfect vehicles. You have a truck for truck stuff and no worry about range. The Tesla for saving gas and going fast and the wagon for hauling stuff under a roof and also going fast.

It’s not about saving gas and I don’t drive the Subarus, although both were my daily drivers at one point. Both? Sorry forgot to mention the WRX.
