What type of battery are you all running in your trucks? Mine is looking like it is going to need to be replaced soon. I've run Optimas in the past and never had issues. Lasted a while too.

I don't think I could handle that much Anal Zone. I won't rule anything out, but man... 8 years?

Currently factory, but when it goes it will be whomever is in stock for a reasonable price. People will talk about different batteries being much better than others, but take if from someone who used to sell batteries. Average life is 3-4 years across all brands. They all suck. Lol

    I like this.

    It's just a battery.

I like Walmart. They are open all hours.

Replace the battery and move on. Carry a lithium ion jump cell if you are that worried. They are awesome!

Great advice. I have one of these in each vehicle just in case.

I haven't needed them yet, but great peace of mind!

Yup. As an example. My motorcycle factory yuasa lasted 10 years. Yuasa #2 lasted one year... We shall see where yuasa #3 falls. I both won and lost the battery lottery so far. Lol

When my truck was 33 months old, my battery developed a bad cell. My dealer replaced it free. The replacement Toyota battery is still going strong after 4 years.

I just replaced my Daughter’s 7 year old factory Scion battery. Got an Interstate from Costco. Could have gotten more months out of it, but she was taking a road trip.

    Why?

Are you in the habit of tipping your truck on its side or upside down?

The extra expense does not offset the amount of reliability. In addition, you need to upgrade the charging system on the truck. AGM batteries need a bit more voltage to properly charge. I don't see the advantage .

Lol. You have more money than me. All batteries last usually 3-5 years. Cheap or expensive, big or small. I just replace every 3 years and zero problems.
When I had no monies I got seven years and two years. Now I have a little money just a new one every three years. Just replaced my wife's battery. Three years old.

I've owned my tundra for 16.5 years. I'm on battery #3. Original lasted 7 years, the 2nd one lasted about 3 years it was the cheapest i could find. Current battery is dated 10-17 and it's the walmart eveready gold. Most expensive e one they sell. Still works like a champ and it jumped off my 2022 f150 work truck that I've only had for 2 weeks that has1300 miles on it. Personally, I've had better luck with the more expensive/longer warranty rated batteries. And I live in sunny Florida where it is hot basically year round.

Knock on wood, I seem to have great luck with batteries. They seem to last a long time on all my vehicles, motorcyles, tractor, etc.
I do trickle charge them periodically in the winter though. Maybe that helps. Whenever I do need one, I just go to Walmart or whatever auto parts store is nearby.
Never been a big believer in "fancy" batteries. They all seem to be about the same.

See my post above about my yuasa battery experience. Three batteries is far too few to make any meaningful reliability judgement. Yes your personal experience has been more positive towards the expensive batteries, and if if makes you sleep better by all means buy the expensive ones.

When I sold batteries I saw the mfg numbers, and they did not show as much difference as sales people would like you to believe.

For the most part the higher warranty batteries are simply a shrewed sales tactic. Slap a 3 year full 8 year pro-rated warranty on something that you know will only last about 4 years. It's rare that you will need to fully cover a battery, but when the battery does go bad, the customer now needs to buy another battery from you in order to "take advantage of the warranty". It's brilliant actually. As long as the pro-rated value is less than the cost to mfg, you get lots of repeat sales (every failure the customer buys a new battery from you) and basically lock the customer into a battery subscription model because they don't want to give up the warranty. Of course if the battery does happen to last the full warranty, they also buy a battery from you because it was so good!

I am so glad I don't do sales anymore. I hated the bullshit.

Nothing from Johnson Controls, their quality has dropped off significantly in the last ten years. I’ve always good luck with Deka batteries, even more so than the odyssey that I had in my power wagon.

Interesting. Pretty genius business model really...
Kind of like Planet Fitness having a big bowl of Tootsie Rolls on the front counter and throwing pizza nights...LOL. Use whatever means necessary to keep them coming back.
