When I start to accelerate after braking down a hill and coasting never coming to a complete stop my truck likes to rev up but not give off any power until i let go of the gas and let it correct itself. Usually happens going down a slight hill. Will rev all the way to 3-4k rpms. Maybe more but never tried going past there. Is this normal? 22 Trd Sport

If you go by my auto its definitely not normal. When going down hill the rpm are nill. If i tap the brake pedal the truck will downshift to 4th gear and basically stay there till i come to a stop. I rarely turn more than 2500 rpm under normal driving. Usually its under 2k.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Haven't paid attention to the revs, but what I have observed is this:
    - With Constant Cruise set going down a hill it will downshift when the speed increases a few mph above what it is set for. Takes a bit of distance on the flat before it will upshift.
    - With Cruise Control off and going down a hill, the first time I tap the brakes OR when the inclinometer senses the downgrade, it will downshift. When pressing the skinny pedal to get it to upshift, it sometimes requires me to let off on the skinny pedal before it will upshift.
It's just the way it behaves IMHO.

Most likely the torque converter is still uncoupled when you try to give it some gas. So all your doing is revving the engine at that point. Sounds normal, but no real hills where I live so Im just theorizing.

The 3.5L doesn't make power below 3k, so...

Have a similar situation, notice it mostly on a hill in my neighborhood. When I come to a rolling "stop" at the bottom of the hill then accelerate I get a shudder if I try to give it too much gas right away. Taking it easy on the gas pretty much takes care of it. PS Also notice it if coasting to a stop light and it turns green before coming to a full stop. To much gas = shudder

Normal driving i’m also usually under that mark. When at a slow roll on the brake going downhill when i get on it to start going again it will just rev up at times is what i was referring to

it's probably in fuel cut deceleration mode and engine braking.

It’s done it since i got it new, have 12k miles now. If i let go of the gas after i notice it’s doing it it will shift right away and be fine. It’s only on certain hills after braking to a slow roll and then trying to accelerate. I always figured i was catching it in some sort of “mode” where it was trying to save gas while coasting.

I had an occasion where my truck would not upshift going downhill without any trottle. That was a little wild at 4000 rpm. I would say Toyota expects to see these things.

I think i know what you're talking about. Its kindof a weird scenario at a certain speed, gear, and throttle that makes it less than smooth. FWIW, i always, always drive w/ ect pwr on. Smooths out everything IMO. At 63k miles now, no issues. Worth a try? Tunes are popular on here, too. Havent done mine, but it seems to correct so many drivability issues for others.

My Sport did what you are experiencing when the transmission fluid was one quart low from the factory. Check your fluid level.

I haven't experienced any of that with my tacoma. My trucks auto behaves just like any other automatic i've driven. This all strange to me.

Any other symptoms that made you check it? Did you just take it to the dealer?
