I see the dilemma. The issue is the brake. It must be applied to start the motor. Shift the transmission. Anything associated with driving the brake must be applied. So soon as you somehow get in the truck without it turning off. Guess what it’s shutting off soon as you hit the brakes anyways. Eh, I had a push button start. So did every car in the 30’s……There’s a reason they went with key starts. Lol.

It has to switch authentication, on a physical key it interrupts, but immediately stays in "on" mode.

With smart key, you can't simulate that with out turning it off. Plus the steering lock has to cycle.

There's ways around it (non-oem starters), but I find most to be sketchy, the steering lock is a big concern.

    Just gotta deal with it.

Agreed. I was kinda bummed when I was handed the keys at first.
Having a push button stinger but with no remote start I had gotten use to getting in an going.
    Now I’m not so bummed.

How does Nissan do it? In my 2020 Armada after a remote start you get in the vehicle with the Smart Key in your pocket, and press the Start button while the engine continues to run. Then you can put it in Drive and go about your business. If you shift into drive WITHOUT pressing the Start button first, the engine kills and must be restarted.

I have the start x remote kit I installed and also have push button start.
I can use the fob to unlock it while running but if you open a door it shuts off.
Range on the remote sucks but it is better than going out in the cold to start it.

:facepalm:I gave up watching after the 3rd fail. You gotta leave a little more time between pushes:rolleyes: Also you have a key.

Edit: okay so sat thru that again. Can you get in and turn the key and drive or it shuts off when you insert the key? Don't step on the brake just turn the key to on?

I’m pretty sure I can turn the key to the run position and drive away. The truck will shut off by either the brake or depressing the lock button three times. Lol reminds me of this for some reason.

I tried it last night. Unlocks I get in turn the key past acc to on. Drove away. Because the kit taps into the tpms for the unlock. That idiot light was flashing all the time until the key was turned.

I know it may not add much, but on my SR I have an aftermarket remote start. With the truck started, I can unlock the door (via the Toyota fob, or the alarm fob), get in and put the key in, turn it to the on position, and drive away. If I touch the brake before the key is in the on position, then the truck shuts down. But mine is not PTS, nor am I using a factory remote start.

I dont think its 20' and later. Mine is a 2017 and it has it. Just a factory fob on a sport, nothing added.

Then you have an aftermarket Remote Start added. Have you owned the 2017 since new?

Definitely aftermarket if its 2017. My Father has one on his ‘17 that can use either the factory fob as well as the remote that came with it.
