I just installed a TRD Pro grille with the TSS sensor onto my brand new 2022 TRD Sport, and it set off my check engine light. I do not have a code, but in the info section of the infotainment screen, it’s saying both pre-collision malfunction as well as a “malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission.”

Drove the truck down the street and it’s shifting very abruptly. Have any of you had this issue when installing the TRD Pro grille?

I put the OEM grille back on and unhooked the battery cables to reset the ECU hoping that it would go away, but the check engine light came right back on… not sure what to do?

The check engine light is not normal. Actually haven’t heard of that happening before, and I’m not sure why it’s happening for you.
It’s not uncommon for the TSS to throw PCS (pre-collosion system) warnings after a grille swap, however, those errors will go away after a little while (unless it says to contact dealer)

Yeah, I haven't been able to find anything on the internet about the grille swap triggering a check engine light to come on. I guess I'll have to contact the dealership and see what's going on.

Do you have any aftermarket modifications on your truck?

Just curious, did you make sure the sensor is plugged back in correctly? Check the connections even if it’s just unplugging and plugging back in. I just did the same pro grille using oem parts and didn’t have any issues.

I triple checked all connections. Everything is linked up but still throwing errors. I’ve heard of sensors getting ruined from not unhooking negative battery cable before unplugging the sensor. Maybe that’s what happened and the TSS sensor is now faulty? I’m very confused at this point

That does happen but it’s very rare, you increase the chance of damage if for example, you have the ignition in the on position and you disconnect and reconnect connections. I would try leaving the battery terminals completely disconnected for a couple hours or overnight. Then try driving the truck several miles with the radar on (cruise control) to allow the system to relearn itself.

I’ll leave the cables disconnected overnight. Good idea. I’m a bit nervous to drive it much at all with the transmission shifting the way it is. Hopefully by having the terminals disconnected that long will fully reset the ECU

Yea don’t drive it if it’s shifting erratic. The only other thing I can think of is the position of the sensor, maybe it’s misaligned in the bolt holes or something. This can cause the sensor to point in the wrong direction and cause the error code.

That was a thought I had too, however putting the OEM grille back on hasn’t made the errors to go away. I’ll let you know if keeping the battery disconnected overnight does the trick

Aside from that, make sure everything is back to oem spec and send it to the dealer. Have them tow it if it shifts funny.

The dicks at the dealer service dept tried to say I had "oversized tires" after I replaced my OEM 265/70R16 Wranglers with 265/70R16 Falken Wildpeaks.

Some of them will try anything to avoid a warranty job.

For what it's worth I installed my Pro Grille from @TheTacoGarageServiceRep 2 weeks ago w/the included garnish, zero issues or errors from first start up and after. I was a little spooked too but maybe it depends on the manufacturer/provider.
