Been noticing a crazy rattle from under the truck driving around.
I have a 2000 3.4L prerunner, crawled under the truck today and noticed the transmission mount appears real loose.
Nothing else I can find that looks off or rattles at all.
Not sure how snug the bolt is supposed to be, can anyone clear this up for me?

    cheers

It's 20 yrs old, wouldn't hurt to change it anyway, its got a lot of goo on it. Check your carrier bearing and u joints and see how they are.
    Just my 02.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
if you can lift or move the transmission side to side it might be time for a new mount.

I really hope that was a sprayed on Rust protector or you have a major oil or gear oil leak.

Carrier bearing and u joints have all been replaced.
I have had a small oil leak that has been getting worse, mechanic friend checked it and said would need a new engine at some point.

The transmission can be lifted up and wiggled easily.
Any chance the mount can be tightened down or just replace the whole thing?

You can check if the bolts vibrated loose In the cross member or the Transmission

Time for a new one if it was never replaced!

It appears to have wiggled loose by the amount of play in the driveshaft and transmission at the mount.
Had the truck for over four years, fixed a lot of stuff over the years, never replaced the mount.
Anyone got a correct part number for this?
Saw Tim has a video about it, will have to check it out.
    Cheers fellas, happy Halloween!

The prerunner mount might be different because the 4x4 mounts bolt to the transfer case.

I never saw one in person up close.

I think you might be confused. The transmission mount bolts to the transmission, not the transfer case. But, I do like your advice about the mount possibly being different between the 2wd and 4wd models. OP, I would double check the part number because your mount might very well be different. I've mostly worked on 4wd models so I don't know if the mounts are the same.

FYI that large bolt on the bottom does not get adjusted. That is the failsafe bolt to prevent your transmission from destroying your truck if the rubber fails.

Also FYI, rubber parts break down over time. At about 15 years old I had to start replacing most of the rubber parts on my truck. This includes motor mounts, transmission mounts, vacuum hoses, etc. If you're having issues with that mount, it's time to replace it. I suggest doing the motor mounts at the same time.

I would consider getting a second opinion.

On my 4x4 the mount bolts to the transfer case!!! Then maybe mine is just odd.

The Prerunner without the Transfer case it would bolt to the transmission!! (The mount is completely different.)

I got under the truck and shimmed my transmission mount to see if it would help at all.
Drove around the block and had the same problem, seemed to be coming from the rear end.
Turns out two of the nuts holding the u bolts on the leaf springs were completely gone.
Had a spare set and bolted them up, riding perfectly fine now.
Still need to tackle the transmission mount at some point.

Any idea of the time or price it would cost to disassmble and rebuild a 3.4L 5VZFE?

There doesn't look to be anything wrong with your transmission mount.

Check out this video covering replacing the transmission and motor mounts:
    https://youtu.be/g_4DiywsSbk

My comment on getting a second opinion was more about a small oil leak should not result in having to get a new motor. Unless it's an internal leak around a ring or something along those lines- but that's not the way it came across.

Had a small leak since I got the truck four years ago.
Apparently the leak has gotten worse over the years, but not sure how bad it is in terms of where/what is leaking.
Dude that checked it out is a good friend who helps me out with bigger repairs than I can tackle.

The point is, a small leak shouldn't mean the engine is toast. You might have oil leaking down from the valve cover gaskets- this is extremely common and does not mean the engine must be replaced. Oil can leak from other sources as well. Being proactive about it now and fixing the source of the leak would mean that you're less likely to have to replace the motor. You should have someone else look at it and give you a second opinion.

I have replaced valve cover gaskets and rear main seal over the years.
Dude had just said the leak wasn't worth fixing, but I am not 100% sure what is leaking currently.
Have no problems bringing it to an engine shop, dunno if it can be diagnosed without tearing down the engine.
