Because it has a backseat and a short bed makes it for soccer moms? I would prefer a longer bed but it doesn’t make the truck less capable for what I need it to do.

He is just making a point that with an average transaction price of 68k EVs are unattainable for most who are fiscally conservative or not paid enough to afford it.

Once you get away from the Corolla equivalents they are not cheap, that’s for sure. Mazda, Kia and Hyundai have been introducing EVs that are comparable to their gas model price ranges though so it seems to be getting better as the model availability increases.

It’s been posted before but I know nothing gets through your skull the first time, and very likely not the tenth time either. This chart is from a year ago but for the sake of argument we’ll say it’s current enough. 150k is a big number so I’ll understand if you’re having a hard time going that high. Notice on this chart that only 6 of 54 lines are over 150k. And of those 6, they’re only 2 models with different trims. So because you don’t currently make enough to afford one of the 2 most expensive models made, the entire EV market is invalid?

By that same handicapped logic the Tacoma is merely a Ridgeline with a body on frame design. Google is your friend, within 2 seconds I found videos of the R1T out pulling a Ram 2500 Cummins as well as the F150 Lightning. Unfortunately for you not many truck enthusiasts consider the tug of war very meaningful as a measure of truck capabilities so there aren’t more inbred hillbilly comparisons available.

My office building offers free Level 2 charging to its tenants. There are limited stalls and a 2 hour time limit with a charge rate of 6.5kWh. Calculating the money saved by charging at work is $1.43 day. It just isn't worth disrupting my day to go move the vehicle after 2 hours to save $1.43 when I can just plug it in at home which is far more convenient. It isn't even going to register on a commercial buildings power use/bill so it is a great perk of a commercial property to offer that some people may really embrace. As others have mentioned, if employers were giving away free gas for coming to the office, people would make a big deal about it. But electric costs so little by comparison.

Don't forget a perfectly flat underbelly with no diffs in the quad motor.

If I'm driving an EV I want the EV that cost the most, has the greatest range, most torque, and can go the fastest. Could always wait for the cybertruck. How about getting a International MV electric chasis and put a pick up bed on it.

I don't know why anyone with an EV pick up would give a shit about pulling a sled. It's comical that a so called inbred hillbilly can take a truck from the 1970s albeit with a purpose built motor, and strategically placed weight. Can out perform a computer controlled electric truck that puts out more power.

That's the handicap of a 4dr short bed truck, unless it's for towing. a Mazda MPV could do the job.

I wish Hydrogen vehicles got more attention. More fuel options are better than just one. Unfortunately manufacturers seem to all be moving towards EVs.

Why don't you have the ICE truck that meets those criteria?

A PHEV truck would be awesome. I’m not sure we’ll ever see it though as our govt is pushing full on EVs only.

Last time I checked no one wants to haul dirty shit inside their minivan. That’s what the bed is for, the loads of dirt, dead animals, coolers full of fish, etc that no one wants in the enclosed passenger compartment.

Key phrase there - purpose built. In other words you should be impressed that an electric truck never designed nor intended to compete in a redneck tractor pull could perform almost as well as many purpose built trucks.

You'd be surprised what people will carry in the passenger compartment of a vehicle.

I was talking about using a truck for mininvan duties, a mini van would work just as well.

Hydrogen isn't nearly as efficient as EV. You need to spend a lot of electrical power to produce hydrogen, and then you need to distribute that hydrogen via trucking to hydrogen stations just like gas, meaning you also need a new hydrogen station and distribution network as well as hydrogen manufacturing capacity. You vehicle then needs to convert that hydrogen back to electricity for use. So rather just take that electrical power from the very beginning and put it right in the car without all the intermediate steps and efficiency losses while also having EVs being drastically cheaper than a fuel cell and you can refill at home today.

I'm not pulling a sled a production vehicle, why would I find that impressive?

The purpose built trucks are impressive because they are modified from their stock form, for the task of pulling weight.

“After tax credit” which doesn’t apply to most vehicles on that list or to people who are rich enough to actually afford an ev.

Whole lot of teslas that are way too cheap on that list as well. It may have been somewhat true 2 years ago but it’s certainly not the current EV landscape.

I don’t understand the idea that you need to be rich to afford an EV. There are a number of 2023 models available for around $40k without the tax credit.

There’s even a Rivian Max Pack for $70K on that list. LOL

Is the GMC Hummer on that list?

Last I heard there was a stop sale on GM's flagship offroad EV, because the battery pack can't get wet.

It's a 190k truck wearing a Hummer badge and it can't get wet?
