A good aftermarket antenna???

    Hey guys...This may be a silly question. But does anyone know of a quality aftermarket antenna that fits a 1st gen? Harder to find than I thought! I just painted my truck and as I was putting it back together I noticed the old antenna is trashed. So I bought a cheapy at the local parts store. (in the pick below) And it is total garbage..Half the station do not come in. And I just cant see spending over 100 buck on the OEM. I need the whole antenna assembly not just the mast. Any suggestions??? Thanks Mike

    I tried several different ones as well, they all sucked - especially those little stuby antennas. Stock antenna FTW.

    Nice looking rig, that blue looks good!

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    It has been several years (10 +) I replaced a bunch of antennas I think I bought the universal ones sold by Napa .

    They work great for all my preset stations I listen to AM radio for the most. I am sure just where you live factors in as well

    I can only guess quality has fallen everyplace.

    They are PSI fender flares off ebay. I was not sure what to think about them before I bought them but the fitment was pretty good! You do have to work with them a bit. But I like them.

    I ran a 12" antenna for years that I got in a package deal for some stuff I bought, never really liked it cause it was thick & not flexible at all. I now have a 15" from AntennaMastsRus, spring steel & has the coiled wire for wind noise cancelling like stock, made in the USA. I've had it for 4 years now & have no complaints.

    Mine is obviously shorter than stock but these antennas taper slighty thicker towards the base so it doesn't swing all over the place like stock if you have a longer one. One of the reasons why I wanted a shorter one. I still get all the stations I listen to fine where I live but they do make 2 more longer sizes. Not sure what stock is but they have 31", 21", 15", & 9" for this style (they have other styles too).

    If I had to buy it again I'd probably get the 21" since that just about matches the roof line. But I'm happy with mine so I'm good.

    Another option is to poke around a junkyard for an antenna off of another car with a similar antenna design, and then modify it to fit. It shouldn't take much.

    Yeah...I thought about that but the tacomas mounting point is almost on the side of the fender. Kinda different and rare.

    As long as the antenna is insulated from the body your good to go.

    I cobbled a few antennas from donor vehicles over the years.

    I extended a few antenna leads on a few .

    most were replacing failed electric antennas after 20 plus years.
