Hi all, new Tacoma owner in the Boulder CO area. I purchased in Sep. 2022 new TRD OR built in August 2022. While I was looking into the wheel well I saw a very rusted looking part, which is puzzling, so I'm wondering if this is normal. The equivalent part on the other side looks similar. I've attached a pic from the side and one from the top. Please comment and put my mind at ease, or send me back to the dealership...

    Normal.

People gotta get off the "omg rust!" band wagon. Metal is gonna rust on every car. Excessive rust on the frame is what needs to be cared for.

OK, thanks so much for your input. I hoped as much, but with the Taco's rust rep, the FUD kicked in. I appreciate you putting my mind at ease!

Wait till you park it wet then look at your front brake rotors the next morning. All rusted up overnight!

And in a few months the rear brake drums will have the same feature.

    Got it. :amen:

Thanks again for the answers and the welcoming. I'm really looking forward to being a part of this community, learning how to work on my truck and moding it.

As long as you can keep those bolts/nuts from rusting/seizing you're in good shape.

Thats what happens when the exhaust manifold surfaces don't get enough grease...your cats will seize, and rust out next.

I've said this before, but rust in this circumstance is actually a good thing. The iron oxide (rust) forms what is know as a protective oxide layer, keeping the raw metal underneath from being oxidized. If you were to remove this layer of rust, you would expose a new layer of steel to air and kick off the oxidation process all over again. Keep doing that, and well you get the picture. Leave it be and drive that fucking truck you maniac!
