The Tacoma was a lot cheaper but the TRX was about the same. I was a little shocked when I started looking at insurance quotes for the Rivian but at the end of the day it is an expensive vehicle with expensive repair costs if damaged.

One thing I hate is MPGe. Miles per KW is a far better measurement IMO. It's confusing AF when you see things 142mpge and a 300 mile range... easier to do the math through battery size and charge rates. Its very simple and consistent once you switch your mind to it, because EVs generally get very consistent consumption in city/highway vs an ICE which much favors freeway miles.

Agreed. MPGe is a necessary evil to use as a tool in helping people understand when comparing to ICE vehicles. Once in the EV ecosystem, everything in KW is the way to go.

Think this has alot more to do with what state you live in than the vehicle, at least with registration.

Insurance as well. When I moved down from Alaska to Colorado my insurance went up a substantial amount due to the frequency of large hail storms.

This. I'm all about EVs, and the next car to replace my Camry will likely be an EV. The prepper in me likes the idea of not being reliant on gasoline. I can use solar to make my own electricity, i can't refine gasoline. Current EV utility vehicles are good for light around town stuff. Maybe that's what most people do anyway, but towing, recreational stuff, and business work is going to be a pitfall of EVs until tech, infrastructure, and price gets better. Besides, I only drove 200 miles in the tuck last month anyway, so the economy would collapse before I cared about what gas prices were.

I think the Rivian os a great truck for an electric truck, I have given it plenty of praise in this thread. I think the Rivian out performs the Ford. I like the Ford's styling as it's more conventional.

I don't like EVs due to the tech interface involved with operating them.

Quick Civics lesson. Redneck can be considered a disparaging term. I don't think many people are offended by the term. I'm not, I don't find words to be offensive.

This. @crazysccrmd gets a GIANT tax break on registration thanks to his military status. Registration on a Rivian in CO will be close to if not over $1k is my guess. I'll let you know in a year. lol

Some states are realizing that EVs aren’t paying the gas tax but they are putting wear and tear on the roads and are looking at how to get that back in registration.

Obviously this should be based on the wear (mileage) and not the value of the car or an averaged dollar amount.

In CO, a vehicle's weight is a factor in registration fees (wear and tear on the roads), so that will be pricey for the EVs.
Also initial purchase price and vehicle age.

I support that move. If you cause wear and tear you should pay your share of the costs.

Colorado would have been $1325 in registration fees and specific ownership tax plus about $6100 in sales tax.

It's just an additional cost that comes with EVs since they are vehicle for vehicle a lot more expensive than their ICE counterparts. They make it up with near 0 maintenance ... however battery longevity is hit and miss by brand.

Early model S's from 2012-14 basically all shat a brick already... Early Leaf's and I3s are all done for also... however later models seem to be holding up... but it seems to take 1-2 generations for each oem to figure it out... Thankfully there is a minimum 8 year 100k mile warranty on most so it is a "non issue" for most people as they rarely own vehicles that long...
#inbeforesomeone says that they drive every vehicle to 1M miles...

Guarantee you I can fit it in an Ioniq. The problem with North America is that we all have grown accustomed to the 'Murica attitude. We want to have our cake and eat it too. We want a vehicle that can fit all our passengers and everything we own without compromising space or comfort, even if said conditions only happen once per decade. With a roof rack for the boards, the sub-floor storage and soft-side bags you better be able to pack for a weekend for 4 people. Are you going to have enough room for 2 weeks, with some extra supplies to help remodel the Air BnB? No. Are you going to have enough room to pick up all the "stuff" your family "has to have" from the outlets you pass along the way? No. Might you have a bit less room than the T4R? Yes. Can you smash through a snowbank? Probably not. Does it have a more sophisticated drivetrain than the T4R can dream of, including AWD and traction control? Yes. Will you spend $XXX on fuel and maintenance costs? No. At this time, for some use cases, an EV is a compromise. That seems to be what people are missing. I've got a GX470 as well as a Volt. Guess which one gets the majority of monthly miles, regardless of the task? Yep, the Volt. So I have to slide my seat forward to fit stuff in the hatch, big deal. So it's not as easy to fit my 1 year old in the car seat, big deal. I'm saving about $4k a year in fuel costs alone.

For around-town-day-to-day gas stops, sure. I'd put those at about 10 minutes. On a road trip, though, 20-30 minutes is very easy to hit by the time you squeegee the windshield, walk through the giant shopping mall that is a convenience store, hit the head, buy all the snacks your passengers can't live without, etc. I challenge anyone to actually time your fuel stops while on a road trip, I think you're looking at it with rose colored glasses.

Redneck can most certainly be a disparaging term, and that was my intent with its use. I speak very deliberately, and never do I make a typographical or grammatical error. I'm still waiting on you to provide your source for that 190k Hummer EV. You seem hell bent on force feeding fake facts to this thread in order to push some anti-EV agenda, let's see your source(s).

So long as it's a complete sentence/thought and not a fragment it's been acceptable for decades. I appreciate the keen eye, however.

You must introduce the main clause with a coma, which is absent.
