Campers are way iverpriced these days. A new one of my exact brand and model is almost double what we paid back in 2017. It's absurd.

Also I didn't physically go look at it but there seems to be nice pop up trailer for sale at helping hands in foxboro/wrentham

My calculus has been that you can buy a nice car or SUV and stay at some decent hotels for a lot of nights for what the cost of an RV and expenses of running one add up to.

My wife considers staying in a hotel without room service "camping." ;)

I agree, trailer pricing has shot way up. Nuts what they’re selling for now and glad I bought mine when I did!

You’re not wrong, I just hate being confined to a hotel room! Plus, the experience of being outside, campfires, fishing, bringing bikes and outdoor toys for the kids. We camp at places that even offer a cable TV hookup but I refuse to use it, I kick the kids outside and that’s where we stay for the time we’re camping.

My sincere apologies for the insensitive post yesterday which I have since edited.
I have no defense and only wish I had a better work environment. Thanks in advance. Bill

She's at the point where we are starting to look for a camper..
Looking for a slide-in for the 1ton.. I'd LOVE to get one of those Black series campers...

But kinda looking at bumper pulls as well. Not interested in dragging a mammoth 5th wheel(or bumper pull for that matter).

I can't get over the expense of the slide ins... They're twice the cost of a small bumper pull and there's no heavy frame, axles, etc. Nuts!

I’ve seen slide ins slide down the highway at some point because of the added top heavy condition

We have been toying with the idea of a camper for a few years and have come up with the same conclusion. We wouldn’t have time to use it enough to make the cost worthwhile compared to a hotel or VRBO. I’m still always on the lookout for a cheap camper though. :)

We added a tent in the bed. Kind of an overland type thing but not even close to the real deal that the serious campers have.

My dad had a slide in before ditching it to go with a 5th wheel - one of the issues he surprisingly had was getting insurance on it. Automotive wouldn't touch it because its not registered to ride the road and homeowners wouldn't because it wasn't a fixed part of his house. Outside of that, he started doing more long distance camping trips and the slide in got cramped after about a week on the road.

The nice part with camping is I can have all my stuff with me (including my bike) - first part of camping somewhere new is figuring out where to ride local trails. Also, having the camper pushes us to use it; makes us find the time to take together and camp. The weekends we don't camp end up being a lot of sitting around the house and kind of wasting it (either I'm drinking in the living room or outside at a campfire).

Do you travel far or stay locally? It would be nice on a Friday afternoon to just hitch up the trailer and go for the weekend.

Funny story. We get the bed tent. Then get a few quotes for an overnight at a camp site or two. Kinda pricey 50$ +. Just then the news comes on about bears in our area. So we decided to use our back yard. We get settled in when I mentioned the yard we have; has no fence. I never saw a woman an 2 dogs move so fast in my life.

During the summer when the kid is out of school we tend to go a bit further - typically up to 4 hours away (gets exhausting towing the camper much further in a day). During the school year we have a few campgrounds we go which are within an hour of the house to not burn a whole day on travel.

    Yeah, I imagine it would.
Out of 3 kids, 2 are grown now, and my 10 year old is... not really interested, so, it would be nice to have a little more room for HER..
The dog is happy to go wherever I do.
Tiff just isn't sleeping on the ground anymore.

I go back and forth.. I started setting the truck up for a nice slide-in. I'm thinking something in the 2k lb range, pop-up, and self contained. Easy to maneuver, truck won't know it is there, blah blah. Of course, attached to truck, to, going somewhere becomes a chore...

I might start looking closer at trailers. They have the advantage of being left somewhere...

    I dunno....

Yep. I want an older one for now anyway... as I'm not convinced she'd be content with one...

I just called almost 20 (no joke) used parts places and they're all selling headers off wrecked trucks... with no cats on them. A bunch of them straight up told me they cut the cats off on removal, and only sell chopped manifolds. WTF?
