How does it produce “50%” less emissions ? It burns the same amount of dinosaurs. Unless Toyota improved the cats.

The Ford 2.7 is a V6, highly doubt whatever 4 banger Toyota decides to use in the Tacoma will equal that in power.

The 2.3L Ecoboost is an inline 4-cylinder engine. That is the only engine Ford offers for the Ranger in the US. It is not a V6. My point was about 4 cylinder engines likely being where Toyota would go with the next generation Tacoma, be it an I4 or a V4. Sorry for the confusion in wording, but I wasn't trying to say Ford made a V4, but they do make an I4 Ecoboost.

No money, all went to truck...

Possibly a variant of the Lexus motor in the NX and 350? or has this been discussed already somewhere in the 29 pages?

Got it; just for your information, to the best of my knowledge, there have been only a few V4 engines produced anywhere in the world in the last 50 or so years; and with the exception of a few 4-Stroke motorcycle engines (the Honda Gold Wing engine being the most common), virtually all of those have been a 2-Stroke design. In my life I've only seen a single V4 engine factory installed in a car, and that was in a mid-1960s Saab Sonnet which sported a Ford built V4 which is long since out of production.

From a different perspective, I would say the odds of any automaker ever again producing a V4 for automotive use is somewhere between slim and none. Now, if you want to reengine your Cessna 172 with a Delta Hawk 2-Stroke V4 Diesel motor, yeah, really cool application of a V4.

Right. An I4 would be far more likely, especially because the power is better and it would be easy to balance. I would imagine whatever they add already has some sort of variant in another Toyota or Lexus vehicle.

That or even a blown I3 like in the GR Corolla (and hopefully someday the GR86).

The 24 Taco will get the turbo that’s going in the 23 Highlander.

    It sure does.

I think the Tacoma could do more with the 3cyl turbo than an a 4cyl turbo.

Maybe Toyota will save the 3cyl for a compact reg cab truck. That would really tear into Ford Maverick sales.

I thought the Maverick was selling.

If it's not, I'm not staying up worrying about it.

Toyota can sell only 3rd gen Tundras, and 4th gen Tacomas for the next 15 years. If they don't want to expand their truck line up.

Do you suppose it will perform similar to a supercharged 1GR-FE or is that wishful thinking?

Not sure what they did, but if you look up any article or video on the 2023 highlander, they all say the reasoning behind the new engine is less emissions.

Here is a video on first drive of the 2023 highlander with turbo 4, he tried to compare it to the outgoing 3.5 v6 for anyone who's interested. Fast forward to around 8:35 mark for when he drives.

Yea I read that too. It seems suspicious to me. Turbo engines aren’t exactly clean either. At the end of the day garbage in garbage out

Looks like Ford sold more Mavericks in 10/22 than they did for 10/21
