Coping with the possibility of total loss in accident after all work and time put into truck?

It's not even about the money, because you can get insurance. It's about the time and effort that goes into modding a truck over the years to "make it your own". How do you cope with it being all gone in a single total-loss accident?

I wipe my tears with the insurance check, then I cash it.

 

Sorry to hear, OP. I fear the same thing but the important part is that you are okay. You can get a new truck.

 

Don't think hes had an accident, think its a general question. Little odd its here, OP has a gen1 I'm pretty sure.

 

I hear you OP, I get that for some people it’s just a tool and there’s zero attachment outside of the purpose it serves but I know the sting of my truck being totaled would most certainly be compounded by the time and energy I put into DIYing the majority if not all, of mods and maintenance and/or preventive type servicing.

 

Could view it as an opportunity. I’m kind of tapped out as my truck is pretty much where I want it. If was destroyed I would have fun doing a new build. I like the building part as much as anything

 

Yep I put an extra $25k into my rig, and you're right it's not just the money, its all the time waiting for components (i.e. my rear bumper took nearly 9 months to get to me during COVID).

I put together a list for my insurance company and pay a hefty premium that includes all my mods and just hope for the best.

 

Because 3rd gen owners have the most investing into their trucks.

 

Just buy another of the millions built and start over.

Don't think so, 2nd gens most likely have the most modded trucks right now. Modding a not paid off truck is not good, and most 2nd gens are probably paid of buy now.

I've lost count of how many labors of love I have built that have been destroyed. I always start over.
I built a balsa wood plane covered in tissue paper when I was 13. It was beautiful and graphics and paint were perfect. So much so I was afraid to fly it.
Weeks later my older friend told me to meet me at the overlook. He had stole my plane, tied an M80 to it and said " Let's see it blow up."
I watched in fascination as it lazily flew over the gorge, stopped and blew up into a thousand pieces. I asked him what do I do next.
He said, "Build something else."
Huge life lesson. I built another and blew that bitch up. I learned anything can be replaced, even a love lost.

I think the life lesson that should have come out of that is you need to pick better friends

Gave up crying (coping) over 'stuff' when I finally realized there more valuable things in life.
