Exactly why I wanna build my own. I’ve seen a couple different diy designs I like, gonna incorporate what I like from those into one.

I considered a RTT but I hate the sound of tents flapping in the wind when I’m trying to sleep. Also, hard to get an 80# pitbull on the roof.

Yeah, I’ve seen them but still have to get the dog up there and just not a ton of space. By the time I spent the money building out the back of the truck, I’d be in way over what the camper cost and wouldn’t be able to use the truck as a truck anymore.

At this point, My plan is to get my truck towing the best it can and go on some road trips. We stay at a lot of KOAs. Drop the camper and go explore for the day. When I can afford another vehicle, I’ll do extra dumb stuff to/with the truck, but for now it’s gotta do everything for us.

“That time of year since we technically had our first “snow” of the season. As usual I like to remind people that a majority of the forest and off road areas in the flagstaff and surrounding areas close for the winter. Check with the coconino national forest website for road closures before heading out somewhere you aren’t supposed to be.

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coconino/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5339811

That said, the cinder hills ohv area always remains open for the winter and is really fun after a good snow storm. This is about the only place that is open to the public during winter.

Now if you choose to come up to the flagstaff area this winter for some snow wheeling or snow play and you end up stuck somewhere, as always I am happy to help with recoveries so long as you are in an area you are allowed to be in. However since I am pretty much off Facebook I will likely not be checking here too often although I will try to check more frequently than I have the past 8 months or so. Better way to get ahold of me if you or someone you know is stuck is to dm me on Instagram. My IG is just my name ryanpodell.

Hope everyone has a safe winter and be smart if coming up for some snow fun”

Quoted from my Facebook post so some of this is irrelevant. But still a friendly reminder. Most of the people here are smarter than the fb guys

    Go here, 34.2956855, -110.8953467.

If you just want a pavement cruise and a scenic overlook at the top take 87 up to Payson and then 266 over to those coordinates. If you are up for more of a drive that will include some dirt road (no trails though)then take 88 to 188 to 288 all the way up through Young and it pops you out close to the coordinates above.

Did 260 to 87 today with a couple detours along the 300. Lots of snow. Great time. Tried to get out to Promontory Butte…road was a little more sketch than I wanted to do since it was all snowed in and I couldn’t see the actual trail. We popped back onto the 300 and tried the Cabin Loop but the 95 was closed at 137a so we had to cut that short. All in all did 70.8 miles on the dirt and in the snow today with the wife, definitely have some spots to come back to in the spring.

I’ll up load pics when we get back into the valley.

Just did the whole road with side trips, 70.8 miles and lots of snow.

Great resource for trails and stuff to check out. You can download his waypoints into Gaia and other gps apps as well.
