Hit a deer last night, messed up my oem plastic front bumper on my 2014 taco sport 4x4. I live in the boonies on a gravel road in the NC mountains. I do not do any real off-roading. I just have truck for snow, farm chores etc. I will be dealing with insurance next week. I was doing a little research today on what oem bumper and paint will cost and it just doesn't make sense to pay that for plastic. So I'm trying to find out if there are any affordable metal bumpers that will be better than plastic oem and not cost me a lot more out of pocket after getting insurance money. I know what I may end up with will not be the hardcore bumpers I see on this forum, but I think a cheaper metal option is got to be better than oem plastic. I was looking at the Heavy Duty front bumper on extremeterraine.com for $694 shipped. Are there any other more affordable metal bumpers I should consider?

Coastal off-road has a weld together kit that’s pretty inexpensive.

There are a couple tube bumpers around that price. I’ve been looking too. Seems like you can buy some steel and make one yourself cheaper.

. That’s true to a point. I reckon the only thing that would cost more then all that would be a set of already made armored bumpers.

I did a True North Fab DIY bumper kit to save the purchase price. Have a friend with all the welding kit, but it did take a ton of time. I looked at it as a good excuse to learn MIG welding though, so in that situation it was a bit of an investment. Also had a great time doing the whole project, I love building stuff for myself, especially getting to weld and grind in the wilds of WV for days at a time.
