The real player software was buggy. Even with local files, if you tried to seek or pause the video, the player would either crash, or the audio would play, but the video was frozen.

I'm wanting a garage computer.. pull up manuals, youtube videos, spotify player, etc. and I'm weighing my options.

Heres my current dilemna.. do I want to use an intel 4500something in a mini itx case with a 3060 and some amount of ddr3 (used it to mine when I got lucky in the newegg shuffle after I got my 3060ti) and basically spend no money

    or

do I scavenge the case, power supply, and gpu, buy a cheap 5600x to upgrade my regular desktop from a 3600, use the 3600 along with spending under $200 on a mini itx am4 mobo and a cheap 16gig kit of ram and have a better desktop and a surprisingly capable garage/backup computer and maybe investigate dual booting it or a use as a software nas down the road

I'm not sure the $130 or whatever a 5600x is going for now is worth the pretty mild increase in performance. 15%, maybe?

Go with option 1, it's free, and it'll keep your garage warm.

Man that's going to be a badass build!

Focus on mine was "cheap"

My current rig is still fast, but I'm bored of it and stuffing old stuff into a new case just isn't appealing.

Said screw it and bought the 5600x for the current desktop, then a cheap asrock A520 mini itx mobo, a sub $50 pair of ram sticks, and a thermal take mini cube case to take and combine with the 3060 and 3600 for the garage. So for under $400 I get to upgrade my daily, and make a garage PC.

Lucked out and found a white Corsair PSU.

It's a step down from the AX860 in my current PC, but at least it's mid-tier and not the worst (80 Plus Gold)

Was on clearance at a local Best Buy (probably cause it's white) which goes perfect with my case anyway

Tested and put together my build, well almost -

    20221102_184600.jpg

One thing to mention, if you buy a Crucial P5 M.2 direct, you get a heatsink for only .01 so basically free.

Bought my M.2 on Amazon before knowing about the freebie.

Fortunately, my Gigabyte mobo has an M.2 heatsink which I didn't know about -

    20221102_135825.jpg

Also, did a last minute order and went with G.Skill Trident ram as opposed to stealing the ram from my other pc.

Just need a gpu and the new pc is done.

    @velillen

    Thanks for the SSD's!

    20221102_210041.jpg

They arrived intact, and I had forgot about them until just now. Hoping I get a psu soon so I can put the new-old pc together as well.

    Thanks for that!

What's funny is that the ram matches the ssd

    20221103_132422.jpg

Unfortunately the hardest part about this build is getting a legit Windows 7 version.

Ehhh lets see some actual benchmarks. Their presentation was pretty cringe IMO. And the crowd made me laugh. "isnt that exciting!" one or two people half clap.

To much trying to push the 8k bullshit and to much time trying to bash nvidia for stupid things

It was a cute jab (i admit i chuckled) but the rest of their "our cards are easier to install!" crap was head scratching to me. But like i said, i didnt leave all that impressed yet. Lots of potential but lets see real world performance.

So uh, neighbor has an extra RTX 3080 he'll let me have cheap.

But on another note, NZXT for the fucking win!

As you guys saw in the pics, I got the Kraken AIO with RGB fans.

Well my case came with two black NZXT fans (set up for exhaust). I used those black fans for the AIO radiator instead and repurposed the RGB fans for exhaust (for aesthetics).

There's an IN OUT cable that's used to daisy chain said fans for RGB sync reasons. Unfortunately, since the fans are too far apart (compared to being on a radiator) I can't use the cable so no RGB capability.

Called NZXT to see if they sell a longer version of the cable; fast forward a few minutes and I'm filling out a ticket online. CJ (the person helping) was excited about my build and wanted to see to it that I get it the way I want so he not only found me a longer cable (not available for individual sale) but he's also sending me their fan controller hub!

    That's legit AF.

This is a first for me. 6800xt merc319. I originally bought my computer as a prebuilt almost 3 years ago and haven’t touched it aside from ram and psu. Will add a 5800x3d soon and complete my am4 build to serve me for years to come.

PC related, but not a Pc.
I’ll be getting gigabit fiber in the next week or so after almost a year of having under 10 Mbps down and 1 up.
Because the old DSL system is so bad I never upgraded from the ISP router, with the gigabit system I’m planning on upgrading the router, it’s been a few years since I’ve bought one and I prefer net gear.
    Thoughts on this router?

Admittedly I'm not very techy, and not much experience with anything other than the crappy "rented" all in one modem/routers from ISP's, but I've gotta say I've been really happy with my Google Mesh router/hubs and 1/2 gig fiber. Its nice to be able run things "wired" in multiple rooms and actually get the speeds I pay for in the entire house.

Not netgear, but the Asus AX86u is arguably the best router on the market
