I ended up with v6 sx package at 35k. I like the blackout package and still some cash left over for 6112 Bilstein's.

If it was 2018 you could probably go out and get a Quick Sand 2019 V6 SX 4x4 a set of bronze TRD beadlocks, and some 6112s for 35k.

The 2.7 is great, but the Truck really needs a 4.88 gearset from the factory and torque converter lockup in 2nd and 3rd gear also from the factory to be awesome.

The 4 cylinder today, is a continuation of the R22, 4 cyl. That engine is bullet proof.

Just turned 7k on mine and been very happy with it. Acceleration isn't the best but the ect button gives it the pep you need.

Exactly how I feel about my '13 5 lug. I don't need 4wd and it does everything I need, and it was a great price when I bought it in '15, because having a 'pool truck' wasn't (and still isn't) the cool thing to do.

Meh. Izzy says 'cool' is over priced and overrated 97.32% of the time in 1st world countries.

i just turned 17k on my 21 2.7 i put some 265/75 at's and a mid rise topper both which hurt power/aero. Even with that its more than sufficient as a plain jane truck it lacks a little at highway speed not wanting to stay in gear at times but hoping once a tune comes out it can benefit from it. Love the truck 29k for a 4wd truck in todays prices is not bad, i also got the sx package, a utility package with no fender flares steelies and non painted bumpers was 1200 less.

I bought my '22 SR 2.7 4x4 last month and I agree with the OP's statement. It's a great value and the powertrain is more than adequate for most tasks. I've enjoyed it so far and I can see myself holding onto it for a while. Unless an SR Access Cab with the 3.5L V6 and the SX Package pops up. Then I may consider upgrading.

I previously owned a 97 xcab 2.7 5-speed 4x4. I always enjoyed driving the 2.7 manual and thought the power was great, peppy even! (I also had LC performance upgrades). However, I just looked up the weight difference between a (97 xcab 4x4 2.7 manual) vs a (22 xcab 4x4 2.7 AT), and the curb weight difference is 810lbs. That weight difference and the 6AT surely makes a huge difference in power compared to Yotas of old. If Toyota offered a manual, and (like someone else said) you upped the gears, maybe add some power mods, it would probably be similar in power to previous gens.

If it works for you, that's awesome, but some of us that had previous gens wit the 2.7 5 speed would easily be disappointed with the 3rd 2.7 auto. The 2.7 is a more simple motor and could be more reliable, but it's also working a lot harder for those miles than it did in previous trucks. The 3.5 is still extremely reliable, and there are already 300K mile v6 3rd gens. I would still recommend the v6 over the 2.7 all day.

i think the negative reviews on the performance of the 2.7 are accurate, and not hype. let's face it, the HP to weight ratio is one of the worst.

it doesn't make a bad choice though. as pointed out, it is a good choice for some depending on your needs and has a history of being reliable.

if an MT were still an option, i and many others would have considered it despite the lack of power.

Like you I'm not a fan of the Adaptive Cruise Control in like, 95% of my driving situations; the good news is you can disable the "Adaptive" portion by simply holding the "On" button for 1.5 seconds instead of just pressing it to engage Cruise Control.

Not here in New Hampshire; if the 2022 model year truck had a manual transmission, then by definition it had a V6 engine.

It's been that way for a long time nationwide, the 4 banger MT was discontinued after the 2017 model year.

Had 850 lbs in the bed of goat, horse and dog feed. Did not squat as bad as my 3rd gen 4x4 TRD off road. I had sold the TRD and bought a power wagon (still have it).
I did buy some air bags it was so bad and never used them may put em on the new taco.

It's the same reliability formula that made Toyota a great truck since the 80's. What has changed is the size and power of the competition. The 2.7L is 'weak' compared to that. But, as you discovered, it is a great option for those who don't need big tow jobs. I have fond memories of the 22R engine and what it could do.

The truck has no limits with realistic expectations. I'm not racing against Mustangs or hooking up to my power wagon in a pulling contest.
The engine does well on our smaller hills, I don't pull out right in front of folks doing 70 on the highway either I just take it easy and enjoy the ride. We've all seen the folks on the interstate that think they're at the Daytona 500.. I'm not one of them. I've done 80 not even stressing anything rpms in the 2k range ( going up a slight incline).

Thats exactly how the sr5 access cab looked when one was parked next to me the other day. Its suspension made it sit noticeably lower than my 2020 sr5 access cab. Both trucks were bone stock. Toyota must of made a suspension change after 2020 on these models.
