285/75/16 hankook dynapro atm PSI

    i recently installed my 5100's and new wheels and tires, hankooks. i went to get a front end alignment to fix the camber on the front wheels. the guy who did my alignment comes in the waiting room and says to me, "you know you only have 35 psi in those tires right? they are rated at 80 psi. your gonna wear them down fast if you dont have enough psi in them so im gonna put them at 80psi"


    i said ok. the only problem with that is it rides like i have no suspension at all because the tires are rock hard now.

    i know my truck is not that heavy compared to chevy, dodge, and ford full size trucks that also use these tires.



    so my question to you is...........


    HOW MUCH PSI SHOULD I BE RUNNING!!!!???????!?!?!??!??!

    Don't run 80 psi! Do a chalk test to figure out the right psi. I run my nitto trails grapplers at 35/38.
    Oh and the guy who told you to run at 80 because you will wear them down is an idiot. The owner of my truck before me had his tires at 60 and they wore really badly.

    80 PSI!?!?!?! AHHHHHH go deflate those things back down to somewhere in the 30's!!!

    NEVER take your truck to that shop again!

    thats what im saying. i know 80 is way to much for a 4500lb truck. wtf is a chalk test though. can someone provide a link

    Take a piece of chalk and run a line on your tires then drive in a straight line for about 50 ft or so. Check to see how evenly the chalk wore off. It should be uniform across the tire. If its not fill or in your case deflate to where it is unifom.

    ok so run it along the width of the tread.

    never heard of that one before. ive done water to check how the tread is pressing on pavement, but never chalk

    ok so obviously if there is still chalk on the outer part of the tread, there is too much psi?

    x2 on the chalk test..2 years ago the idiots at costco set my 265 BFG A/Ts at 65 psi..always check the psi yourself..that way you know its done right

    he didnt tell me to do it, he did it.
    it was 8:00 in the morning, i had been drinking untill almost 4:00am that morning, and my brother randomly showes up from florida that morning at around 5:30 so i was kinda out of it. when he said im puttin 80psi in there i was like ya ok haha

    probably too many. ill drop the psi to around 35-38 tommorrow morning before work and they will be back to normal because thats what discount tire put in them when they were mounted

    I had Cooper STTs on my '05... 3 ply sidewall LT tire, and 40 psi was good on it... 32 psi was too squishy feeling.

    I have the Dynapro ATMs, but the P rated (44 psi Max.) and 35 psi feels good on them.

    The stock Rugged Trails (P rated) are the ones you read the door jam PSI for (29 front and 32 rear)... 35 psi max. on them!

    The chalk test is GOOD ADVICE!
