    Contemplated many times.

I already have most of what I would need from pulling a dual battery out of our 4Runner when it was sold. Just need a good location, the battery, and the cables to connect it all.

    Time for V3.0

Gonna take a little while, for what I have planned but I’ll keep doing little by little.:headbang:

The Front Stage is where the biggest change is happening, going from JL Audio C7 components to Focal Utopia M Series. Second AGM battery setup for all 5 amps. Bridging the 4 Mosconi PRO 4/10s, but the whole project will take me a while.

The back of the Taco will pretty much look the same.

986EC7E9-23E1-4EDD-BD22-9B170A9EBE07.jpg Working on a single 12 comp r box and a duel focal 12 box. The duel 10 box has .65 cube air space per chamber perfect for the W1 jl’s. The comp r 10’s want .8 cube but sounds pretty good in the .63.
I got the 12 box up to 1.27 cube and it is louder and sounds better then any of the 10’s I’ve tried. Focal just came out with a .53 cube 12 inch sealed box sub with a top mount depth of 5 3/8 inch. So I’m going to try them next. With the kicker 12 I lost one click on the passenger seat

For 2nd gen access cab owners wanting some stealth subs, the Kicker
48CVTDF102 10” down-firing loaded enclosures fit perfectly in the rear “seat” footwells. Very impressed with them. Had plans to use these as a temporary solution until a custom enclosure / storage platform was built, but after initial testing there’s no need to do anything else. Will still make a platform some day, these Kickers are the same height as the storage bins so that’ll be easy.

These two 2-Ohm enclosures are wired to a 700W@1-Ohm CT Sounds monoblock amp, which is likely putting more than 700W. For anybody looking for a quick and easy amp rack, this one is a plastic cutting board from Target, perfect fit with no trimming required.

I had to do a little creative trimming to the seatback support but otherwise it was drop-in-ish LOL.

The subs are 5.39" deep, box says max depth is 5.375" depth. So those won't fit without some belt sander work

There’s an optional 6” mounting depth, also been looking for a dual 10” ported box possibly.

I went through the same dilemma of wanting a full size sub, but settled on a shallow mount due to space restrictions. I'm running the JL Stealthbox with a Kicker 500.1 and it's very clean with the dsp and plenty for me, but you'll probably want more bass.

I haven't heard either the JL I linked or the ds18's, but the frequency range specs on both are very similar. Also, those JL's don't need a ton of power (rated 75-300w rms) to slam. If you did 2 of them and bridged them to down to 2 ohm at 500-600rms I think that'd be plenty for a Tacoma. I think 500w each would be too much for those JL's. (My JL Stealthbox is getting 300w rms from the key 500.1)

You might reach out to Mr. Marv on the forum or on his instagram page. He builds lots of very high quality custom sub boxes for Tacoma owners and is very knowledgeable.

there's simply not enough space there for a dual 10 ported box. to get that, you either must do a pass-through to the bed, or take up a massive portion of the back seat area. there's just no way around it. ported always requires about double the space of a sealed enclosure of the same style. could do single-10 ported, or dual sealed 12's, but that's as large as these trucks can fit while still maintaining seating space and concealing the install. after that, you're going 'extreme home makeover' and knocking stuff out of the way to fit your ideal.

i honestly don't know much about ds18. they blew onto the scene relatively fast from my perspective, and with shiny colors and pretty speakers. the first thought when i see shiny pretty speakers is audiobahn and their flame-basket speakers that everyone ran back in the day to look good in shows, but no one ever commented on them sounding good. the set i picked up is being re-used as midranges in a 2-way bookshelf, they were terrible subs...

My other option was two of these https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P3S412/Rockford-Fosgate-P3SD4-12.html in a similar .7 cf enclosure, been trying to figure out if two of these shallow 12’s on 400w each would hit harder than the full sized 10’s on 500w each

The JL's have a tad lower frequency range (JL 25-250 vs RF 34-250). However, a larger speaker has more surface area and will move more air. The 12's are also dual voice coil. In my opinion, JL and Focal are some of the cleanest sounding speakers and subs, but the RF 12's are probably what you're looking for. Go with the RF 12's.
