I'm sure the Bronco & Jeeps are great toys. It's just annoying having to fix or replace parts often, or even have to go to the dealership.. Toyota barely even gives you an engine light warning, and very little repairs.

As much as I'd love an FJ, I'm quite content with my Taco.

I don’t know if I want to spend hundreds of dollars to tune it. It seems to drive just fine for me.

I came from 8 years in a modded JK, 5 trips to Moab, but in the end the Pentastar was not bombproof.

Welcome. I'm a former F150 owner. Loved mine but hated that my EB developed cam phasor issues. I'll never buy another Ford. Just might have to make my Taco my retirement vehicle. Nothing else is worth owning IMHO anymore. The Broncos are nice looking but I'll can't trust them. Never trusted Ram/Dodge/Chrysler. How many times have they rebranded them? Never a fan of GMC/Chevrolet though the 6.2L diesel Jimmys weren't bad. Nissan lost me on Titian 2nd gen. That's leaves Toyota. And if all the 2nd gens I keep seeing running around and a hint at reliability, this truck will likely be with me many years.

No doubt, someone will tell me the 3rd gens suck compared to the 2nd gens before this thread dies.

3rd Gen has to many positives over the 2nd gen for everyday life. At least they do with the adaptive cruise and stuff. Heck, the frame is almost the same frame (if it's not broken, don't fix it). Ford is the best of the domestic cars, but Toyota might be the best of the best.

Over the years, (I'm 64 now) I've owned Ford and Chevy trucks (3 Fords and 1 Chevy to be honest). When I went to replace my 1988 Chevy in late 1999, I drove both a 1/2 ton Chevy 4x4 and a Tundra AC 4x4. I bought the Tundra and never regretted it. Have owned 2 Tundras and now my new 2023 Taco. Since 2000, I've owned 2000 Tundra AC, 2003 4Runner SR5 V8, 2006 Tundra DC 2007 Scion TC, 2009 Camry LE (Still driving) and now the 2023 Taco. Been driving Toyotas ever since 2000. Love them, love the quality, would not drive anything else.

Traded a "lemon" F250 in on my '20 DCLB and have loved it. Had a '74 Bronco I rebuilt from the ground up. Love the look of that body style but...could not sell it fast enough. Fords are just crap. Had a new Ranger for a loaner one of the many, many times the F250 was in the shop and hated it. The Tacoma has been 100% reliable. Gas mileage could be better but, at least my life doesn't revolve around dealer service.

Long bed was a must have, I like to have room for stuff. You also have to consider that I spend 95% of driving on pavement and the remainder off road so, it's not worth the compromise for me. It still does really well for the easy-moderate trails we do.

Yes, the KDMax tune is worth it IMHO.

Anyway, nice truck and welcome to the forums!

The Bronco interior must be some cheap ass shit if the spartan 3rd Gen interior looks better.

If the throttle lag, shifting at wrong RPMs, constant downshifting, and being not very responsive in 6th gear, don't bother you, I wouldn't spend the money either. But those things were very disappointing to me in the 3rd gen Tacomas. I've driven Toyotas since 1979. The resale values are great but these trucks are greatly improved with a tune. It was about the price of tube steps or a tonneau cover.

My '17 F250 had a roomy, luxurious interior. But nothing worked, it was a real POS and comfort doesn't make up for that to me. The Tacoma is real step down in appearance. I say that because with the "tech" package I got all the options I wanted. Everything's there and it's comfortable enough...it's just not as visually appealing. I think it has 3 shades of black (boring). I overlook it because everything works, all the time. Period.

It's like owning a new Bronco because they look cool (they really do) and suffering through maintenance issues or a primitive vehicle just to have it. Yuck! Hard pass!

You're preaching to the choir. There are some aspects of the truck I'd rather Toyota fix, but, for the most part, I'm quite happy with it. There are a plenty of fiercely loyal 2nd gen owners. We're all of the same family. Some of just like the older brother and others the younger one.:fistbump:

I've got a 8 hour home in a few days. I'm going to pay attention and see if I feel what you are talking about.

If I do, I will then forever blame you for making me spend money on something I was ok with......

Took a look under the hood of a new Bronco and WOW! It looked like an Eagles nest in there! Ive not ever seen a less thought out looking area under the hood on another modern vehicle like that.

    Is that the 2.7?

I still haven't seen anything about the 2.7 in the F-150 having valve problems.

Yes indeed...... honestly that looks better than the one I saw.
Went to look at a Rapter Bronco at a local car show last month, didn't think to snap pics with all the people trying to crowd in.

I don't know what option it is (didn't bother to listen to the video). I just figured it couldn't be that hard to find an image of it somewhere. :notsure:

To be fair, I haven't seen the inside of my Tacoma in more than a year. Why should I...it works!:rofl::rofl:

It says Everglades so I'm guessing that's a 2.7. Definitely cluttered under there.

I thought I looked under the hood of a 2.7 F-150 but I can't recall what it looks like. Maybe I never looked. There's more room in the 150 engine bay, it might be a little tidier.

If money was of no issue I'd own both. Love the Bronco styling but I feel my Tacoma will last much longer with way less problems. Ford is addicted to slapping turbos on lawnmower engines. Maybe it's just me but I like V8 and V6 powertrains. I'd love to see the Tacoma with a V8 but I know we're heading in the opposite direction so maybe Ford is cutting edge in that respect.
