Oof. As someone who has been on the receiving end of multiple hit and runs on a vehicle, I know/feel your pain. I would advise against you contacting taxi companies. They may lie to you to try and hide it, as they will be on the hook for it. Let the cops do that part. With the height of the damage, that might be from a yellow rental truck (think penske) or the like.

You could try contacting body shops to ask that they keep an eye out for a yellow vehicle and send them pics of the piece left behind. Such a shitty situation.

The only thing is is slightly bent my hood and pushed the metal front fender back into my door. So not sure that can be pushed back. The hood is so minor. But yeah I hear you. Better than direct hit on the door

Will the cops actually do that for me though? I would hope so.. I totally hear you that most companies probably would try to cover it up unfortunately

They're cheap enough nowadays, I have a Cobra 2 channel that I wired to constant for the parking mode. All in all was about $225.

Honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything to be done. Hit and runs are hard to run down without a witness or a camera, and if it's only vehicle damage they have more important things they work first. It sucks, but that's the sad truth.

My first hit and run experience: I had a black car, door was caved in, and there was white paint all over in the dent and scratches. In the driveway directly across the street from where my car was parked sat a white mercury cougar with a completely crushed rear bumper covered in black paint. When I asked if the officer was going to ask them about it, he looked across the street, shrugged, and said "nope." Handed me the paper with the report info and left.

Now, he was a known useless person, and 99.9999999% of LEOs are not like this. I like cops and feel they get a bad rap, but I was unlucky enough to get the guy that was just there to get a paycheck.

At least with the last one I had the cop was pretty. Nothing ever found on that one either, but I still got to crack the joke to my friend that the officer could "handcuff me anytime!"

    Sorry man that really sucks!
We used to leave our house unlocked in the 80’s early 90’s.
No more I have dash cams and light bulb security cams!

I grew up in a rural farm town and did the same thing when I was a kid in the 90s. Hence why I am not used to crime, hit and runs, security cameras. My brain is still not tuned to the current age unfortunately. No excuse but just one of those things

Yeah, personal accountability is dead. The entitled shitwits of prior generations out bread the responsible ones and then pushed that self esteem matters more than being responsible for your actions. Nobody leaves notes, fesses up, or takes responsibility these days.

Wind caught my door and blew it into a bright orange dodge next to me. Light tap, and I couldn't see any damage, but there was what looked like a rock chip in the door about where it hit. I took a picture, found some paper in the truck and wrote out my name, number, and what happened. Went to put it on the windshield and saw there were people sitting on the passenger side. Couldn't see them through the tint. I went around and a little old lady unrolled her window, told her what happened and gave her the paper with my info. She said "It's my son's truck and he's inside, but..... you're so honest?" She was so confused that I was being a decent human being. That is the sad state of things. Honesty is the rarity.
